Maybe I've been a tad harsh this year?
« on: May 16, 2011, 04:37:40 PM »
I'm a bit like a women sometimes in the fact that I change my mind nearly every game. Fickle? Yep that's me.

Over the past month or so I've been very public about my criticism of Harry Redknapp and a number of our players. This afternoon I had a chat with an old friend of mine who reminded me just how far we've actually come.

In my first season ticket year I remember the away game of the season at Old Trafford. We lost 3-1 and I remember thinking "why am I doing this?" Our star man was Chris Armstrong, Chris bloody Armstrong!?!?! I carried on with my ST and at times I wished I hadn't and once again questioned why so many people go week in week out when we really are s**t.

I remember watching on in envy of the top teams as they played European football and I dreamt that one day, just one day this could be us. I used to look at the fair play award like a kid on Christmas day and hoped that we would somehow find a way into Europe.

Finally we did!In came BMJ and we got back to back 5th place finished and if it wasn't for a Lasagna then we may have finished 4th. This is what I love about this club, nobody can predict us. If I want a safe bet I would have supported Man United but I didn't I chose Tottenham. Did I think I'll ever see us win at the San Siro? Of course I didn't. Did I ever think we would win at Ars*nal or Liverpool? No way. Did I think we would lose to Blackpool? (A team I remember watching in a play off final with Leyton Orient) Yes I did! Because we are Tottenham and this is what we do

Yes HR has changed this football but lets not forget the work done by BMJ, Comelli and Ramos (That day at Wembley was special) I might not agree with how Redknapp conducts himself with the fans but I cant complain about what he has done overall. I believe it shows how far we have come that we can finish 5th and go through to the last 8 in Europe but for me to feel disappointed. I'll never forget the memories of this season and I doubt I'll enjoy a season as much as I've enjoyed this one.

The only warnings I would make are:

The club should always remember that this club is nothing with out every single one of us and nothing makes me more angry than supporters who recieve abuse from people within the club when in reality they are showing pride and passion for the club they live and die for. Especially when most players/coaching stuff couldn't give a shi/ t about the club in reality.

2. This club is called Tottenham, we play in Tottenham and Mr Levy please don't change that as it will be the biggest mistake you will ever, ever make. Don't do the same thing that makes me hate Ars*nal so much.

Thank you HR and DL  I'm sorry I've been such a miserable sod at times!

Sorry for the long post but COYS!

 When I'm annoyed after a game I just think back to the 7-1 defeat away at Newcastle  :-[

Great post.

I think we all have our ups and downs in this area and how can we not? We all love Spurs and sometimes it feels like being in an overly dramatic relationship!

One day you're on top of the world, happily in love after beating Ars*nal at the Emirates. Then there are times that make you pull your hair out. "Did the team we beat 9-1 last season just beat us at home? Wonderful."

But you're absolutely right. The fact that you never know what to expect with us makes every win that much more rewarding. Also, if I'd been spending as much time and money as you to go to the games I'd be even more up and down about it.

Great post fella

I think I mentioned before that in previous years making Europe (UEFA Cup) was a successful season for us, George Graham, Big MJ and Ramos have managed in recent times for us.

So many of us are dissappointed at not making 4th again this year as after tasting CL footi we want it again and teh lads proved we can mix it up with and beat the best around, we have just struggled against teams who fight for their lives!  But thats the Spurs way lol

We have come along way in recent years and the deep rooted fear in all of us is that after this season we might slip back again, either way no matter what league we play in, you chaps like myself are THFC through and through!

The Spurs rollercoaster will continue and there will be many times when it will annoy the s**t out of us (Blackpool, Spammer results and Arrys selections at times) and other moments that will put us way up in the clouds (Inter Milan, AC Milan playing Real and stuffing the Arse)

COYS!!!!!!!!!!!
THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

Another thought here guys is that if it wsn't for passionate fans voicing their concern, the management might just "carry on regardless". They must be aware of dissatisfaction from time to time and its a wake up call for them - so voicing concern in the spirit of well-being does the club we love so much a service!

If we moved they wouldnt change the name would they ( I could handle being called just Spurs)??? if so that is like totally killing our club off for good in which case it would loose loads of supporters as it would have lost its identity!

TBH mate its a tough one, if the club moved and the name Tottenham Hotspur or just Spurs is no more for me the club would not be the same as what I have supported over the last 31 years  :'(!

I certainly would not support another EPL team thats would be just wrong and wouldnt feel right plus my heart just wouldnt be in it.  I would probably be reduced to a follower of the new club and not an out and out supporter!

I've heard that the club may just be known as "Hotspur" which is what it was called orininally. Not happy at the propect of losing "Tottenham". It would still be "Spurs" but when people ask me who I support I have always proudly said "Tottenham" not "Spurs". Being the place of my birth, it would be hard to deal with and I hope that Haringey and the English Heritage people will relent and allow the original plans to go ahead.

Let's hope in a few years time we won't be saying: "There used to be a football club over there".
