Also bear in mind Gomes had played in Holland for a good few years before coming to us. Dutch weather no different to ours in the main so he was well used to a northern european climate. I'm not sure that weather conditions were the reason for Robinihos failure I think he may just have been to big for his boots.

Gomes, like any other overseas-player, had to acclimatise to the new style of play and sheer intensity of the Prem, as well as new culture, language, etc....... far more crosses and high-balls to deal with compared to the continental game...

after the initial problems not entirely unexpected, he not only coped but excelled very soon after.... the best GK in the Prem that last 18months I'd say..

Robinho is not suited to Citeh's style (or lack of).... he needs to play in a Spurs-like pass-n-move team... which Citeh just wasnt/isnt...

Speculation merrygoround Fabiano

I swear I only read the other day that Fabiano was definitely staying put, now Bryan Ruiz's arrival is imminent his comments about us are contrary to this, he is quoted in the Express saying: “I feel that I could fire them to the finish above Ars*nal I know the club and fans so desperately want. “I truly believe in the next two seasons Spurs can win the Premier League or European Cup. I’d love to be a part of it – I just need to know that they value me as one of the world’s top strikers.” Full article and link below, what do you think? just tabloid nonsense from someone who knows exactly what we want to hear? This all could be irrelevant however as he is cup tied if Sevilla win their home leg, v Braga, which I believe they will.

Also I am not going to jump the gun as his wage demands would be a huge stumbling block, especially considering he says “I believe myself to be one of the top strikers in the world and you just need to look at the deals players like David Villa, Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba are on,” he added. Furthermore “My next contract will be my last one, or at least my last big one, and I have to take that into account. My goal record in La Liga speaks for itself.”I just need to know that they value me as one of the world’s top strikers.” Sounds like he wants one last big pay check, and I really don't think we will give it to him, and at the moment he is cup tied, but if Sevilla dont make it past Braga and we do with Young Boys, then I say break the 'piggy bank' for one big transfer, and also we will have to increase our wage limit if we ever are going to attract any world class 'Torres' like players then it is going to have to happen some time, but not to be held for ransom, we can't offer him anything like Villa, Eto, and Drogba, but definitely a decent pay packet around 90k. Yes I am well aware of his age, but if he can fire us into the top four again, or through the group stages of CL then it really doesn't matter, he is undoubtedly a  world class striker, and we are crying out for someone like him, not finishing of City season opener and several other lower table sides last season is damning evidence of this.

 Full article below

http://www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/brazil-ace-declares-interest-in-premier-league-mov?

Brazil hitman Luis Fabiano has admitted he would love to play for Tottenham, as his future at Sevilla remains unclear.

Fabiano has been linked with Spurs throughout the summer, with manager Harry Redknapp declaring his interest on numerous occasions.

And, with rumours of Twente’s Bryan Ruiz heading to the Spanish giants, Fabiano could be on his way out of the door.

It had been thought he may have been left out of Sevilla’s Champions League qualifier against Braga this week but he played – potentially lowering his value.

With just one year left on his contract and no way he can play in the Champions League for anyone other than the La Liga side Spurs will not want to part with a lot of money.

However, Sevilla will want to sell because Fabiano has admitted he would love to move to White Hart Lane within the next couple of years.

He is quoted in the Express saying: “I feel that I could fire them to the finish above Ars*nal I know the club and fans so desperately want.

“My next contract will be my last one, or at least my last big one, and I have to take that into account. My goal record in La Liga speaks for itself.”

Fabiano will not come cheap for Spurs, though, because he feels he deserves a contract on par with some of the best strikers in the world.

“I believe myself to be one of the top strikers in the world and you just need to look at the deals players like David Villa, Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba are on,” he added.

“I truly believe in the next two seasons Spurs can win the Premier League or European Cup. I’d love to be a part of it – I just need to know that they value me as one of the world’s top strikers.”

That article was written before he played for Sevilla and became cup tied. I think sevilla might want to sell him fast for some funds and get a replacement. Maybe im not sure just speculating myself but if he does come. I do hope he keeps his word(And fire us above le Scums!). I still cant forgive him for undermining our club after AC Milan and ManUtd didnt want him.

Well maybe you wuld liketo know that Levy has been workin his arse of the pulthis deal off, he is our main target for this window now. With A. Young a very close second.

I wouldnt worry too much about Fabbo's wages.... wage-structures are always amended periodically as the Football and mostly our circumstancies change.... 80k now for Modric can easily be upgraded to 90k for a truly world-class player like Fabbo even with a transfer-fee of 15m with no resale value... if he was 26yrs he'd cost 40m+....

if we get CL we make 10m minimum which will offset most of the transfer-fee.... sell Keano (even at 6m + we save around 8m in wages on a mostly redundant player) and we are ahead on the deals..

and we still have saleable assets in Hutton, Bentley, Crouch/Pav, Jenas.... even Corluka....

to coin an American neo-con phrase: this deal is doable!...... and it will mean us having a real chance of Top4 for the next 3-4yrs at least..

What is the fascination with shipping out half the squad.... Hutton and Jenas OK. The rest with exception of Bentley, but only if we get a decent offer, we will probably need to keep. Remember its going to be a long hard season especially if we qualify for the CL and we will need all the cover we can get. If we sign Fabiano then offload Pav, Gio or Keane.

Could be a great signing for us, we would have a great brazillian spine running through our team with Gomes, Sandro and Fabiano. COYS

I think Bentley is not ideal for the possible 4-2-3-1 this team is evolving towards.... thats why despite Bentley here, we're still after the likes of A.Young, Sessegnon or Pienaar... that tells its own story (not that you'd take any notice)..

Keano is now redundant in our team and he costs shedloads in wages every month, he is the prime candidate to ship out - getting A.Young for Keano & Bentley on p/x is a great way to monetise those assets..

still think Arry likes Pav who he feels could work as a back-up lone-striker to someone like Fabbo in a 4-2-3-1... Defoe can play in 1 of the '3' quite easily as he has the attributes...

I believe this deal just got all the sweeter.  Braga just knocked out Sevilla from the qualifiers meaning they will be in the Europa league.  I'm not 100% certain but I think that means that should we do what's necessary tomorrow night then we can register Fabiano for the group stages of the Champions League.  That's assuming this deal is as close as everyone thinks it is of course....

the play-off games for the group-stages of the Champion's League are still classed as being within the competition of the Champions League... therefore Fabbo will not be playing in the Champions League again this season for any club now that Sevilla are out..

will still get the fecker tho....

Quote from: Reuters - Wed, 24 Mar 13:53:00 2010
UEFA has relaxed its rules on players appearing for two teams in one season in the Champions and Europa Leagues.

The executive committee has agreed that a player who appears for a club in any of the preliminary rounds of the Champions League or Europa League can play for another team in the competition proper, so long as his original team is eliminated in the preliminary competition.

"The rules have been relaxed regarding what the English call 'cup-tied' players, that is players who have already played for one team in a competition in a season," said UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino.

"From next season, if a player's club is eliminated and he signs for a new club by the end of the summer transfer window on September 1 he can play for his new club in either competition.

"If he is not signed by the end of the summer window, he can move in the January window."

The one stipulation that remains is that clubs can add up to three new players in January, only one of whom will be eligible if they have previously played in the qualifying rounds.

Bad news is that his price is still high since Sevilla is officially out of the champs league.
