Spurs hitman Dimitar Berbatov is on the verge of signing a new 3 year extension deal following Spurs' qualification for the UEFA Cup again next season, Planet Spurs can reveal.

Berbatov, who has been a sensation since joining Spurs from Leverkusen last year, will be offered £44,000 a week deal, doubling what his current contract offers. It is said that Berbatov demanded European qualification resulting in Tottenham's late flourish in the league.

The deal, which will rule out the sale of the striker to Man Utd and Chelsea will last until the end of the the 2013 season.

Well, if this is true :O, so he would of left if we didn't get into UEFA? To be honest £44,000 a week is nothing, espicially if he does stay for that time. Nowadays football though, you do 1/2 the time on your contract then get a new one worth even more, but as long as it keeps him here! Hopefully it shows that even if we don't make CL next season UEFA will keep him here at least for next season.

Great news and still 'cheap' leaving us room to recognise his value to us again if we need to, I like the idea we drip feed payrises because its telling hi we value him and hopefully has a positive response.

I hope it is true. If we want to establish Spurs as a top four club we need to make sure we keep hold of players like Berbatov.

Where did you see this?

I looked at that a bit funny about "demanding European qualification", a player of his quality should be playing in Europe as much as possible, it just seems a bit unlike him to make demands. Maybe I'm looking into this to closely.

Berbatov has been a sensation this season, long may he continue knocking them in.

On a side note, I believe this will be our most expensive wage for a player, seems mad when half the Man United team are on at least £80k a week.

Yup, previously our highest paid players were Robbie and Ledley! Well worth it, expecially considering the money some clubs like Middlesborough and Newcastle pay their palyers, it really makes our achievements that much more special.

I think Keano earns 42k quid a week. So a 44k to 42k ain't that big a difference. More like hitting our current wage roof of 45k/week.

I read the exact info in Bulgarian media as well. Not that it confirms anything. However, I remember rumours for doubling Berba's wage back in early March.

WOW I really hope this is true, if we can break into the top four during his time with us I think he'll deff stay. The fans adore him and he knows it, plus although money is important in football I don't believe he would necessarily leave because of that.

I can only assume that the club pays big bonuses.Enough class players have played for us to make me think that the wage structure is good enough.Ars*nals wage structure was always very rigid but they paid big bonuse to their players.

I think thats a better way to do it. Have bigger bonuses rather than have big wages. Bigger incentive for the players to perform.
