Tottenham Closing in on Bent

It is rumoured that after Charlton have been relegated to the Championship that Tottenham are the most likely to land Bent's signature, with a deal being reported around 10m. Martin Jol has already stated his admiration for bent.

Bent looks destined to be leaving Charlton after they were relegated to the Championship. With Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane & Jermain Defoe up front if Bent was to link up with this trio it would form one of the most lethal strike forces in the Premiership, but Bent would want guaranteed first-team football, something Jol would not be able to give.

Tottenham will have to fight off a few other clubs for his signature such as Aston Villa, Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham all of which are reported to be interested in the striker services. But all Four clubs remain hopeful they can land the striker with the 10m price tag not being an issue, and Tottenham are confident they will be the ones to do so.

Yeah I agree that's a lot of dosh. Especially when you consider Berba cost £10.9m and he's just in a different league to Bent. However, if Spurs manage to hold onto Defoe as well, we'll surely have the most formidable strike force in the Premiership!

Yeah, Mido is better then people make out so I don't think we need to sell him then buy Bent. Keep Defoe and Mido then strenghten LM and LB.

£4m for Mido is being discussed, so actually only net £6m.  Not a bad bit of business for that money.

Wouldn't be a bad replacement if Defoe did leave. But if he does stay then it would be a better idea if we strengthened our left side by buying a quality left back and a quality left winger.

Charlton are asking 15mil for him. I say that's a clear sign to cut our losses, and move on.

Peter Varney insists Charlton will only sell Darren Bent if they receive a suitable offer for the in-demand striker.

Bent has reportedly attracted a range of clubs following The Add**ks' relegation, with Liverpool, West Ham, Tottenham and Valencia linked with the England man in Saturday's newspapers alone.

Bent has proved his class in the Premiership over the past two seasons and figures as high as £18million have been mooted in the press in an attempt to put a value on the former Ipswich striker.

Charlton have already compensated for his likely departure by wrapping up deals for Chris Iwelumo and Luke Varney, but the club's chief executive insists Bent will not be leaving unless a suitable offer is tabled.

"Darren Bent will only leave Charlton if the price is right for Charlton," said Varney in The Mirror.

"If it is not then he will be going nowhere."

Is he worth all this hassle? Sorry but he isnt an £18m striker.

£18mil is a hell of a lot of dosh, especially just for Bent, I'm sure we could get a better player for less money abroad...
