For the money we would be prepared to spend. Gary Hooper is a good shout, not seen him much but the reports are positive. Supposedly a natural goal scorer, so good turn into a steal.
Maybe next year...

This is an article picked up today after the Leeds game. Make of it what you will

Andre Villas-Boas not buying striker

By Jack Prescott, Staff Reporter

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that he is willing to risk not buying a new striker in the January transfer window.

Spurs are currently without Emmanuel Adebayor as he plays at the Africa Cup of Nations with Togo, while Jerman Defoe recently suffered an ankle knock in training.

"We are happy with the options we have, but we understand injuries can put us in a difficult position," Villas-Boas told reporters.

"I think, as I have told you before we are comfortable. It (not signing anyone) is a risk we are willing to take."

Tottenham slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Championship side Leeds United in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.

That tells me Levy has said he is not spending any money. Why am I not surprised, after watching the Leeds game we had better hope that Defoe and Ade do not pick up any injuries or get suspended, cos if they do we will struggle.

It never ceases to amaze me how incapable we are of defending properly. Where were our back 4 for the two Leeds goals ? We seem totally incapable of grasping basic defending, after all we were not undone by Messi or Ronaldo FFS. Thats without looking into our midfield / striker situation. After Man U I thought we were doing alright with the squad we have. Obviously I was wrong. I guess Levy is gambling yet again on us getting top 4 without spending.

Actually, and depending on what you read the quotes that are attributed to him use the word "unlikely" which doesn't actually mean anything. At one time he said I doubt if we will buy "anybody" in the January window and here they've just bought the German player.

It would seem that Gary Hooper is the one and only striker who we may bring in, assuming it comes off. Well hopefully  he cant be a worse finisher than Dempsey and Adebayor are this year.

Gomes might get a game up front the way we are going< probably do better than Dempsey lol

To be fair on Dempsey (again), he has scored quite a few goals for us this season, eight to be precise. Only Defoe (14) and Bale (11) have scored more. Adebayor has played in 18 games and scored only three, and that really is poor ratio for a forward.

Fair point Riff, I watched him vs Man and I know he scored the goal for us but he really was dire up until that point, he first touch and pass is pants, no real vision.  Ade has been way of the player he was last season, injuries dont help plus I actually think he now cant be arsed!

Dempsey just isn't good enough, plain and simple, he isn't a striker, he never has been, he wasn't an out and out striker at Fulham, he was an attacking midfielder who just happened to score a few goals for them.

According to some of the papers Spurs have made a bid for Leandro Damiao. We shall know in a couple of days what is what.
