Do Tottenham deserve champions league football
« on: May 19, 2012, 10:51:53 PM »
We could of guaranteed ourselves champions league football if we didn't go through that dreadful spell near the end of the season, we were lucky to finish 4th but it seems that 4th wasn't good enough now Chelsea some how won the champions league. I'm sure we fans, as well as everyone at Tottenham feel some what robbed of champions league football, but did we bring this on ourselves?

Of course we brought it on ourselves !!!!  We should have been just watching tonight wondering if Arse or Chelsea were playing in the Thursday night league next season !!!!  Now we can have a go at the Premiership again with no European distractions and maybe Harry will have a few better plays so that he can rest/rotate players and we don't look tired in our last 13 games next season....COYS

Yes we brought it on ourselves!!! we had a 10 point gap between us and 4th at one point then we slumped.  We then got a reprive and just needed to win our last 2 games and we would of had third regardless what Le Arse did.

I just hope our key players see that they and the team are right on the verge of something special and give it 1 more season.  I am though certain Modders will be off in a big money move but Levy will stand firm on Bale.
THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

The thing is Levy can be as tough as he likes with the players we have under contract. But thats not going to attract the calibre of player we would have been able to get if we'd been in the Champions League. Yet again we will be rummaging about in the bargain basement, looking for cast offs and has beens. Oh and you can bet your life Adebayor will have changed his tune this morning.

Yes we deserve CL football. We finished 4th.

However we are not getting it because we failed to secure 3rd place when we had
it in our hands.
Can argue that Chelski have robbed us but they only did what they needed to.
We can only blame our poor spell from February onwards.

Now the following weeks could prove interesting.......already Modric being touted by Real!!!

Interestingly last season we played our youngsters in Europa games and there were those
who thought we weren't really interested in winning it as a top 4 finish and CL football was more important.
Well.........its got us nowhere.

I think we should take Europa League more seriously. It's still an European competition after all. We should let the more experienced players play and win this cup.

Your wrong on a few accounts. We do get European football, whether we like it or not. Personally I hope Arry does what he did this year and plays the kids, so we get knocked out ASAP.

Secondly, don't think our squad will be stronger than this year, because it won't be. My guess is that we will lose at least two of our best players. I can promise you that our balance of money spent to revenue gained from the sale of players will fall into the positive.

I don't think you or many of our supporters realise how catastrophic last nights result to our club was. As well as losing some of our best players, we will not be able to afford or entice quality players to Spurs. This is a really bad day for Spurs and football in general.

It should also be taken into account that without CL football this year, and a top four finish being very unlikely next year, the NPD will almost certainly have the breaks put on.
AVB OUT, AND TAKE LEVY WITH YOU

Agree with you there bald bloke. Last night's result (and our run of 4 wins in 13 league games) has put this club back 10 years. Unless we get a multi-billion pound sugar daddy paying the bills, a quick slide into mediocrity will ensue. That's the way the game is. We are the damned  >:(

Yes we do deserve Champions League football BUT because of a ruling caused by another English club we have been denied. All that apart we managed to finish in 4th place in the Premier League which in any nomal season would, wrongly in my opinion, guarentee us Champions League football.

The big problem is that we should of finished at least 3rd but as is our way at Tottenham we managed to contrive to bollocks it right up!!!! The thing is we are a different beast from the likes of Chelski, Woolwich Wanderers, Man Ure and Saudi Citeh because we fail to possess one thing they all have and we have as fans been begging for for years now. What is this wonderous missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle..... a genuine 25 goal a season f**king ugly hard nosed I don't give a s**te how I get them goalscorer. We have been crying out for one as fans and watching Bale, Lennon, Modric, Van der Vaart, Walker, BAE etc etc etc playing balls into the box and then watching them harmlessly drift wide with no one attacking them in a Lillywhite shirt is criminal.

The sad thing is if we had made Champs Legue this season we may just well of managed to grab one but I fear now as has been said by others Chelski wining that game last night may well set us back 10 years if we are lucky maybe even more if we are unlucky.

To be honest I feel numb about the whole thing like winning the lottery then losing your ticket, I'll be amazed if we start next season with anything near the same starting 11 as this season and even more surprised if we manage to get anywhere near the top 5.

I know its probably the wrong time to express these feelings so soon after all thats happened but I just don't think my feelings on the matter will change.

The Champions League is s**t. Europa is Europe's elite tournament.

Chelsea deserve to defend their title, even though they were rubbish in the league and played boring, negative and dull football to win.

But Spurs also deserve their chance. The CL is about having the best sides in Europe competing against each other. That being said These teams will have the chance to qualify:

Linfield Belfast
FC Lusitanos
Dudelange
Torshavn
Valletta FC
Shamrock Rovers
FC Basel
BATE Borisov
FC Salzburg
Hapoel Kiryat Shmona
Dinamo Zagreb
Molde FK
MSK Zilina
Zeljeznicar Sarajevo
Partizan Belgrade
KR Reykjavik
Helsingborg IF
The New Saints
Sheriff Tiraspol
DVSC Debrecen
NK Maribor
FK Ventspils
Slovan Liberec
Flora Tallinn
Slask Wroclaw
Neftchi Baku
HJK Helsinki
Shakhtyor Karaganda
AEL Limassol
Skënderbeu Korçë
Ekranas Panevezys
Vardar Skopje
Ulisses Yerevan

How many of these sides are a better footballing side than Spurs? How many of these sides have beaten Milan etc.? Yet we will not be there because UEFA have not thought through its policy for these situations.

If I had my way the CL would only have the champions from the top european sides getting autmatic qualification, with the champions from the lesser sides having to go through a seeded qualification system, similar to the present based on how far their country has progressed in the past.

Then actually have a league of 11-15 sides each having to play each other once, half of their games at home decided by a draw. Thereby the champion league champion will apply their league capabilities rather than their knockout (bore dull stay in it for the penalties) style.

This would then make the Europa a credible knock out competition to run alongside it. Which would always have sides like real madrid or Barca, A manc side, a milan side etc.  the revenue brought in for both competitions would increase. some weeks you could have Man City v Juventus, Real Madrid V Dortmand (in the champions league) and at the same time (Barca V Bayern, Man utd v AC Milan (Europa) And this would not be a one off week.

Just a thought.
Maybe next year...

Champions League should be for the Champions otherwise change it's name too the Just Missed Out On Being Champions League !!!

Whole bloody things a farce, Dimexi I like your idea but no one will go for it because it would upset the monoply the big clubs hold in Europe, and unless you've got the big bucks they don't want to let you play !!!!!!
