its really quite sad and a metaphor for 'supporters' when a player like Modric who has done so much and played with honour, self-sacrifice (playing thru injuries, etc) can be rightly hailed as a great servant for the club who's shown dedication and work-rate, can now suddenly become such a hated figure in the space of a heartbeat, just for showing that he would like to leave his current job.

it seems that all the effort a player puts in over years of hardworking service means nothing, in the end.

true loyalty is valuing what a player does over the full period of employment at the club, not just naked hatred as soon as he decides to leave.

I respect your opinion but this is like having your misses tell you she will stay in the relationship but has feelings for someone else. All the sunset walks and good times in the past are forgotten, from that moment on she is a bitch and you hate her.
p.s I am not talking from experience :'(

Modric was defending his position AFTER Levy went public with the contents of their meeting. Levy gave a very 1-sided summary saying that Modric was staying and that was that and that Modric would have to lump it.

hardly using the Media to force a 'bigger club' to come bid for him, as Chelsea had already bid by then. Prior to that bid, all Modric had said (very reasonably) was that if the right club came in for him, that he would be open to consider it. ( just like any right-minded professional footballer would).

PS - the wife analogy is totally not appropriate, as a player is employed by a club (he is not a fan who will turn himself into a slave just so the club can reap all the benefit).

The analogy was in reference to how fans love turned to hate in a heartbeat. To be honest was also
a bit tongue in cheek.
And please stop banging on about slaves.
A modern player is not a slave, he is an individual who is very lucky to have their career in bountiful
times.

Oh I forgot about this clown. I'll go back to calling him a knob.

a player should show as much loyalty to a club and fans, as they would be willing to show him if/when better players are to hand

If we sign Joe Cole then I give up. The guy is the most overrated piece of s**t in the world.

The most correct statement i have ever read on this site, although to quote Steven gerrard last season when he just signed for the bin-dippers "Messi can do some amazing things and Joe can do them as well....if not better"

Not sure how old i will be when i finally stop laughing at that.

I think Luka must have no business sense whatsoever. He may be the sweetest guy in the world (kind to women, children, small animals and all that) but he clearly doesn't understand dollars and cents (American expression, don't know the English equivalent).

He's upset over this alleged gentleman's agreement in which the club would consider an offer from a "bigger club". 22M & 27M aren't really reasonable offers at all. It's painfully obvious to all of us. Why can't Luka see that? When you've been labeled as the franchise at THFC and have 5 years left on your contract - those numbers aren't gonna get it.

This is simple. The club considered the "offer" and took a pass. When they get a legitimate offer then perhaps they will consider it. Grow up little man and stop being so naive already. He really expects the club to sell him on just because Chelsea offered money.
He's strained his left adductor muscle it says. Whats that then ? Do we all have those or just footballers ? I wonder how mine are ? *courtesy of taimedowne*

The Chavs paid £50 million for Torres who was struggling for form and is injury prone !!!!!

So how the f**k do they justify tapping up a player and offering a piss poor £22 million for a player who is at the top of his game and playing the football of his career !!!!!

Tell Chelski to start the bidding at £50 million so we can sensibly tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine and if Modric kicks off them sit him in the stand for the next season or until he understands that we don't have to sell him because we hold his permit !!!!!!!

Note to whoever creates contracts at Spurs add line saying any player will not be available until £100 million transfer trigger is met for everyone unless the club give permission, (unless you called Jermaine Jenas and the trigger would be £3.50!!!)

Keown piss off your a knob !!!!

as skillful as Modric is he has little end-product for a so-called creative ATTACKING player. he does most of the cute stuff in areas that do little damage to the opposition, hence low scoring-rate and low assist-rate.

if Fabregas is gonna go for 35m, a player who can do all Modric does, is younger, AND scores alot and assists on goals alot too, then Modric should be valued at around 10m less.

Levy has said publically that he wont even consider any bid for Modric, irrespective of offer-price, to look like a big bad mofo to all the Spurs fans, after being percieved to be weak after Berbatov.... therefore what Wilsonjet said about rejecting the bid cos its too low is not accurate.

Levy will sell, but only after Modric makes it hard for him not too - that way he can show all the experts what a tough-guy he is.

27m is about the right price.

STOP PRESS - Spurs make 12.3m offer....confirmed by Real Madrid... for midfielder Steve Granero.... if Sandro + Modric are gonna be the automatic choice for CM next season (with THudd, Jenas, etc as good enough backup) why oh why waste 12.3m pounds sterling on even more backup ?..

I can only conclude that the REAL business of the summer is being conducted far away from the PR-stunts of righteous indignation for public consumption.

sold by August.
