Pienaar joins Tottenham
« on: January 18, 2011, 03:54:06 PM »
Everton's Steven Pienaar has revealed he will join Tottenham after the two clubs agreed a fee of about £2.5m.
The 28-year-old midfielder visited Spurs' training ground on Tuesday and is set to agree a four-year-deal and undergo a medical.
"To end speculation I am going to Spurs," confirmed South Africa international Pienaar on Twitter.
Chelsea also had a bid accepted for Pienaar by Everton, but failed to convince the player to sign.
Neither Tottenham or Everton have confirmed the deal, but Pienaar added: "I've had brilliant years at Everton. It will always be special place in my heart," added Pienaar whose contract with the Merseyside club expires at the end of this season.
More to follow.
"It's been my life, Tottenham Hotspur,
and I love the club."

Interesting signing, one i can't really get my head round when we have Bale, VDV, Lennon, Kranjcar  and Bentley (assuming he returns)to play out on our wings  :-\

I do like him as a player. He's very passionate and isn't afraid to get stuck in! He turned Chelski down so he went up a level in my estimations aftet that

So i welcome Steven to the club all the same

New team-mate Jermain Defoe welcomed his arrival, suggesting it proved Tottenham were now the equal of Chelsea.

The striker said on Twitter: "signings (sic) Steven Pienaar is a massive coup for spurs this deal really shows how far we have come when we a top player rejects a big club 4 us."

Independent  18/1

someone should inform Defoe that Tottenham are, in actually fact, a big club too.... and over the last century, at least as big a club as Chelsea..

According to Harry speaking about Pienaar on the BBC, he believes Pienaar can play on the left, right and through the middle.
With only Modric, Jenas, Huddlestone and Palacios  the only real CM's we can play (maybe O'hara too) Pienaar could be a good adition to the  centre.

He could do much better than Jenas through the middle. He's a more dynamic midfielder in my opinion. On the other side of the coin it probably means bye bye to Kranjcar.

I'm still somewhat surprised... tho perhaps I shouldnt be... that so many self-proclaimed Spurs 'supporters' still lack a basic understanding of football-talk...

when Arry said Pienaar could be played left, right and also down the middle, the 'middle' meant he can play as a 2nd-striker.... Pienaar is an attacking player and has never played as a CM which (might surprise some, I know) actually requires defensive qualities too...

he is not a CM... he is a wide player who cuts inside, or he is a 2nd-striker a la Vaart...

this will eventually perculate thru most esteemed skulls..... by about August

I think signing Steven Pienaar is an excellent additition to our great club. Steven has great quality and will play a big part in the team.Three million pounds sounds an absolute bargain. All  the Tottenham Hotspur officials must be congratulated  for buying very good quality players at a reasonable  price. I'm so proud to be a Tottenham Hotspur fan !

Good shout Dedley, he has certainly played a good few games for Everton through the middle and has a lot more to his game than Jenas.

Pienaar is a great addition and will compete with Lennon and Bale for a starting-place.... not just cover them eg. Krankie... I look forward to seeing him play in the positions both me and Arry have in mind for him
