I thought I would start this so as all other threads and posts can stay on topic or at least there abouts.

In my short time here many a good thread has reverted to JJ & Modric so why not lets discuss it here 

IMO Modric makes us tick and is vital to THFC and JJ is a squad player someone who has yet to fulfill his ability for whatever reason, which is annoying as we have all seen glimpses of what he can do.

So Gareth I know this is close to your heart fella get this a swingin!

if Modric is soooo great as a creative, attacking midfielder, how is it that a Spurs reserve player constantly plays ahead of him for Croatia as a 2nd striker, and shows him how its supposed to be done ??

Nonsense.

Croatia played with  Eduardo and Petric up front tonight against Malta.

Niko and Modric have started the last two games,tonight against Malta and last month against Norway.

Modrics position with Croatia doesnt really bother me at all, its what he does for us that counts and in all honesty are we not a better more attacking and creative team when he plays?

Jenas, Modric and Kranjcar....

How about we compare the 3 and go over strengths and weaknesses.

Kranjcar
Strengths: Flexible in that he can play on either wing as well as a central attacking midfielder. He can play killer passes and has a great shot on goal.
Weaknesses: Pace. Offers very little defensively.

Modric
Strengths: links up play between midfield and strikers very well. Shoots very well himself. Can play on the wing, but is better in the middle. He is very quick to spot a pass when it comes to setting up play as well as cutting out passes from the opposition.
Weaknesses: He is very short. Although I feel he can cope with the physical aspect of the game, obviously he won't be winning any air balls. He does well for a smaller player, but he can obviously be overpowered. He isn't slow, but he lacks the lightning speed that many smaller players have.

Jenas
Strengths: As a central midfielder does well going forward and when it comes to defending. He has a good shot on goal. Gareth, please let me know what I'm missing.
Weaknesses: NONE. He is the best player in the world. Ok, seriously he is one of the most inconsistent players I've seen. I don't know if it's confidence or that he's been very unlucky with the timing of injuries. For years we've waited for sparks we've seen from him to happen consistently, but it just doesn't happen. One game he puts Gerrard to shame as a midfielder and the next game he can't complete a single pass.

I'm sure I've missed quite a bit. Feel free to correct me.

with such great objective appreciation of Jenas' attributes, it would serve most Spurs 'supporters' right if Spurs totally bomb out of Top4 contention and Jenas does his best to make it so...

if I were him, I'd certainly have that cross my mind.... after all, why bother to try your best when all that will happen is the great Modric or some other 'shiny object' player gets the credit..

I was hoping for Spurs for Saturday before...but now, come on Ars*nal.... 3pts await.

Gareth I have been on this forum for all of ten minutes and already it is clear to me that you are beyond ignorant if you had been watching Spurs recently you would realise that Modric has in fact been one of the best players in the side, along with Bale and VdV. Arguably he was the best player against Inter despite the marauding runs that Bale made and his inch perfect final ball.

However the only reason Modric has been playing so well is that he has been given licence to go forward, with Tommy Huddlestone sittign a bit deeper and doing a bit more defensive work it gives Luka a lot more freedom to create and get forward. This is where we will miss Tommy the most but I think Jenas can fill that gap as long as he plays to his full potential, which he has done on a maximum of five occassions for Spurs.

like I've said many a time, most fans are simply not schooled enough in football to be able to appreciate what Jenas brings to a side.... Jenas keeps things simple and doesnt try to dwell on the ball too much, he does everything a CM needs to do but in a low-key manner usually devoid of 'shiny objects' for the kids to lap up...

Jenas plays a role thats tactically in nature, to nowadays stay back far more, in order to allow Modric to attack far more (tho not very EFFECTIVELY) to preserve his hugely inflated 20m+ price-tag..... I can see how that makes sense..

most fans cannot fully appreciate the most important thing for a CM to do.... to have the fitness and intelligence to constantly position and reposition during a game covering an area roughly between the 2 penalty-boxes over a period of 93mins...

Modric does nice pirouettes on the ball.....even Kranjcar is more EFFECTIVE when played for either Spurs, or more perceptibly by Croatia...

It doesn't take long does it? Welcome to the board you clearly know what you are talking about unlike some others. 'tactically in nature'......you couldnt make it up.
 
He doesnt even watch Spurs play (someone didnt even watch the Inter game or appear on the board for a couple of days after) so just ignore the troll.

Seriously guys, I'm sick and tired of this Modric vs Jenas bashing. We all have our favourite players but Harry Redknapp is the manager of THFC and for some reason I think he is a lot better manager than Gareth Keown (who has a PhD in football), me, Biggs or any other member of this forum would be. (I doubt Bill Nicholson comes here very often...)

I have seen moments of wonder from JJ but in his time at THFC, the chap has ability and could be a legend for us but instead his regular performances have resulted in him being a squad player filling in when needed or when mixing it up abit.  Maybe its due to his maturity mentality or lazyness who knows.

One thing is for certain we can be dam certain Modric will turn in the business as he is total class it cant be denied. 

Modders and THudd are the prefered CM combo and rightly so, thats not syaing that there isnt a place for JJ when the game suits!

There is a place in our squad for JJ I value him as a player and wouldnt want him to leave!

Gareth, I think you're being far less objective in your summary of Modric's ability than I am of Jenas'.

Honestly, if an opinion on a player makes you support Ars*nal perhaps you'd be better off on this forum instead -
