Heads Out Of The Sand -Our best team is?
« on: September 17, 2007, 12:54:37 PM »
Lads, lets get our heads out of the sand, if we had Fergi as our Manager, below is still the best team we can put out when fit. And IMO, this is a fifth place team. Look at the competition and think again. As I said, this is our "best team". I think if we can get them all on the Field and stay fit we could challenge for 5th.

Robbo (if he gets he's sh1t together) if not Churn can do a job.

Chim - Kabul - King - Bale (Dawson, yip Subs)

Lennon - Steed - The Prince - Tarrabt (Jenas, hudd subs)

Bent - Berb (Keano, Defo Subs)

Still don't look world class does it!! and that is it, no other players to come back, that is it! It is head out of the sand time lads, lets get fit, get lads playing together every week and go for 5th and a cup of some sort!

.................Robbo

Chimbo, Daws, Kaboul, Bale

Lennon, Hudd, Jenas, Malbranque

.............Berba, Bent

Subs: Cerny, Lee, Taraabt, Keane, Defoe
Back up: Gardner, Zokora, Prince

Jol can't rely on King to save his job!

Okay, given that you think this is the strongest team we can Field (still not sure about Hudd and Jenas myself) Not hard enough for me in mid Field. But given this is your strongest side, do you think that is a team that should be playing in the CL next year?

No i don't but it's catch 22, you have to qulify first before we can sign chamions league repalcments for Jenas and Malbranque.

Toadlad, do you not think if we finished 5th for the next couple of seasons we could sign replacements over that period and then challenge - I just think it is a bit premature to be talking CL, and all it seems to have brought us this year (supporters, players and especially management team) is grief! I think the sooner we stop talking about it and start thinking of "building a team for CL" the better. C.O.Y.S

I agree totally Wexford, but what you asked me was if our current team is good enough to play in the CL. It isn't. But if we qualified, we would stengthen. The current team is good enough to challenge top 4 though when everyone is performing to their maximum. We have been buliding for the future since Jol took over, nothing to worry about there. Dawson, Kaboul, Bale, Lennon, Hudd, Jenas, Prince, Taraabt, Defoe and Bent are all under 25 and have another 10 years ahead of them.

Out of all the side people have mentioned. Each one of them central mid paring are really weak. I hop Boateng can fill the boots for that role.

But untill then, with the CM players we have at the moment we will see slow progression. if we decide to purchase a few in January i think we will see a massive difference

I agree, in principle, but I think from the list above, given another year or two, this team could challenge for top 4, but what I am saying is I don't think they can this year. Like you say "right now" it is a catch 22, but I really do believe that if we stick with these young players for a few years (like Arse have) they can challenge for top 4 then, and I also think with a few more top 5 successes that we could pick up a few real quality players along the way. Consistency is the key, we need to be the Ars*nal of 5th place for a few years, we need to own that position, if we did I think do we will get "world Class" players knocking on our door, there are a lot of great players who are gagging to play in the EPL.

I agree wit a lot of the points in this thread. The one thing I will say though -

KPB Is a talent, a prospective star of the prem at the moment and nothing more. Its all very well having a good start to the reserve team, but we dont yet know if he can carry that across to the premiership.

I think its to early to say he is one of our best players.

In the meantime we stand to lose our only player up to CL standard (berbatov), if we are not challenging for that 4th spot.
