Ghaly's £40,000 fine!!
« on: May 12, 2007, 03:32:12 PM »
Tottenham midfielder Hossam Ghaly has been hit with the loss of two weeks' wages after his strop against Blackburn Rovers on Thursday night.
Ghaly has survived the axe at Spurs after making a grovelling apology for his shirt-throwing shame.

The Egyptian midfielder was fined £40,000, two week's wages, for his angry reaction to being substituted against Blackburn on Thursday."

Is that enough of a punishent?? :bruce_h4h:

Should he be sold??

his on £20k a week :wtf:

He should be axed no question about it, what he did was an utter disgrace.

But it's good to see him apologising and acknowledging what he did was totally wrong.

I reckon he'll still be off in the summer.

The good thing is that he apologised on what he did wrong.

He is a disgrace to our team after he did that.

I also reckon he'll be part of the clear out during the off season.

So he's earning the same kind of wage as Berba?! Hmmm...

Anyway, I suppose he couldn't do anything else other than apologise but I'm not sure that fine was enough. Trouble is, footballers earn so much that a fine hardly makes a dent. A ban would be more fitting, but if he's gonna be off in the summer, not much point in that.  If he did stay & played next season, I wonder what kind of reception he'd get from the fans?

Apparently this is an interview that was held with Ghaly.

Transcript of it, taken from another site.

after the hey hi , how are you doing etc....intro

Interviewer: im sure you've got a perspective on what'd happend with the incident of throwing your shirt your reaction .. i will give you the space to talk as you please now.. please go ahead

Ghaly: before i do start, Please note that prior to my coming on your show , you failed to mention to your audience that i was subbed after having come on as a sub....

interviewer cuts him off : so what ? .....( interview saying so what to the fact that Ghaly was subbed NOT to the fact he - the interviewer- did not mention Ghaly was taken off after coming as a sub )

Ghaly: well you say so what but i am a player and also a human .. i have feelings and it wasnt easy to subbed after only 30 minutes after I've come on as a sum myself. Also, if you follow the EPL and the Spurs, you will see that sometimes i play and do a good job then the next game i dont even make it as a sub.other time , i do really good and even score a goal and get rated highly but then the follwing game i am not even a sub, so in away this was partially a build up to what'd happened yesterday ( rovers game )

interviewer cuts him off again: well Hossam, EVEN IF you were subbed . EVEN IF you were subbed after having come on as a sub. there is always right and wrong , Hossam.. you need to start by admitting you WERE wrong

Ghaly: oh of sure.. for sure what i did was wrong

interviewer: ok now we're talking

Ghaly: but honestly i am and was not expecting you'd come after me strongly like this

Interviewer: no no dont get it wrong.. all we're saying is we in egypt are very happy with your experience in Europe. we feel glad our boys make it to Europe. even better, we feel alot prouder when our boys make it to English League, a league that i would call the best in the world- if not, then its the 2nd or 3rd best in the world, therefore, we do hope for the number of egyptians abroad grows but i dont think it would with a bad representation ; you know this does give a bad name to Egyptians abroad since you represent not only yourself but also your country. dont you agree ?

Ghaly: i wouldnt call it a bad perception of egyptians . not that i make it my business to do wrong. i just felt we had a good season and i did my part to the best of what i could but this happened ( i think he was referring to feeling treated unfairly being sidelined etc... )

Interviwer welcomes a guest ( an icon/legend in egyptian football)

Guest: Hossam, son, i dont follow Englishj football a lot but i can tell you when i do watch european football including to the Spurs i look forward to watching our kids perform well. i take pride in our kids playing abroad. I've watched some games for tottenham where you were in the starting 11 or even came on as s ub. i still recall when you had lost 4 teeth in one of the games. this was really brave of you. your coach did not even take you off. you got stitched up and came back on the pitch. people praiused you and your bravery that day didnt they ? .. here we take pride in what you've done.. you're a man and swallowed your pain for the game. so it does disappoint us when a reaction such as what yours was come from soneone like you. ( in other words, you're better and bigger than that ).
GUEST continues... Hossam you never know what you will do after you retire one day. you might end up going into coaching and you WILL one of these days have to sub the sub.. you dont know whats in the mind of a coach in the heat of the game. disagreement with a coach isnt for the public to watch. there's a locker room ..there's the one-one conversation with the coach in his office. there are different way to voice displeasure other than showing that in public

Ghaly : sir i am not disagreeing with you at all. my reaction wasnt right and i am at fault. but like i said to Shobeir ( the host / main interviewer ) that it confuses and annoys me that i am out of a certain game or not starting a game after I've done really good the game before. all for no apparent reason. i just find out i am not in the team for a particular game for no reason. it adds to the misery that some players will always find their place even after having just come back from inury and are not perfectly match fit. they still make it to the starting 11. I just feel treated unjustly only bcz i know even critics know i just did well the previous game. i feel i do my best when i met. i do have my bad games and i dont clmplain when not picked but when i've just done my best in a game and dont make it to the next not bcx i am injurted but bcz another player had just come back from injury, i cant he;p but to feel bad and treated badly .. it builds up some bitter feelings in me that i am not liked by the coach and only get picked bcz his #1 , #2 etc.. pic isnt available.

Host/Interviewer : hossam, has any decsions/punishment been taken against you after the game ?

Ghaly: nothing so far other than the one decision instantly taken that i wont be playing the City game

interviewer: will the decision/punishment against you going to come from the coach or the Club's management or even the FA ?

Ghaly: i believe it wil be a joint discussion between the management and the coach first then the verdict.

Interviewer: has you offered any aplogies yet ? to your coach, the management or your teammates ?

Ghaly: no , not yet. i did go today though to get treated for a minor stiffness in my thigh ( spasm ) .

Interviewer: did you have a chance to talk to Jol ?

Ghaly: no i didnt get to meet him

Intrerviewer: did he not make it to training for some reason ? or why was it that you didnt get to meet him then ?

Ghaly: no , i think he had a busy press day. the man, with all honesty, spoke good of me. he had nothing bad to say about me to the press . he said ( Jol ) thayt i am good kid. i am well behaved and layed back and not a trouble maker and was surprised and confused as to why and what drove Ghaly to do what he did. I have to say that my only defense and argument about my actions is that I've been feeling i was not treated justly and emotions kinda built up but i can not say that what i did was right or the manner i did what i did was nice. i know my reactions was real harsh and wasnt calculated properly.

interviewer: let me ask you then.. do you think after this incedent that this is it for you with tottenham ? haven you seen the last of you with the spurs? or do you think a proper punishment will do ?

Ghaly : i honestly dont know.no idea what will happen to my future with the spurs. i have to say thgoug that out of my displeasure as of late i did ask to leave about 2 weeks ago. my agent did officially speak to the spurs management and voiced his and my concerns about playing time . i think i played close to 30 games this season ( starter and a sub alltoghether) all of which i was played out of position ; something that isnt too comfortable for me. no chance to show the type of player i really am.

interviewer: do you have any offers on the table from other EPL teams ?

Ghaly: no, nothing yet

interviewer: how about outside of England from any European team ?

Ghaly: well, management still havent agreed to letting me. i mean i, from one side, and my agent from the other side asked a few times for me to leave but so far they dont want me to go. last time we spoke was abouyt two games ago when we my agent asked them to let me go but their answer was still NO..

Inrerviewer: so your agent might be listening to offers now ?

Ghaly: i am sure he is

interviewer: how about mido ?

Ghaly: i dont know any details to tell you the truth but i think Mido asked to leave after the january break so he may end up leaving at the end of the season

Interviewer: so basically you do not know whether you are leaving or not.. or even if Mido is leaving or not ?

Ghaly: nothing for sure.. no i dont know yet

Interviewer: well, i sincerely hope this will turn out ok for you. we do wish you the best of luck. we love you here and you are a representation of egyptian football. all the best for you .. all the best for all of our internationals playing abroad. thank you for being with you

Ghaly: thank you sir

Personally, I think it's a load of bollocks, as I don't think he would refer to him self as 'Ghaly', plus I doubt he would say that He and Mido have both handed in their transfer requests.

He sounds like such a cocky git I hope he goes, a fine like that means nothing to someone who earns so much, he's got off light.

Hossam Ghaly is one of the most creative players and has made quite a few goals with his clever passing. I wish Lennon or Chimbonda could learn how to centre the ball. :mf_swordfight:

Well I must say I am extremely disappointed in that reaction from Ghaly. What a jerk! Sounded like all he had was excuses for what he did. And as for the part where he said he hadn't managed to speak to MJ - hasn't he heard of a phone?

However....this is what has appeared on Tottenham's website:

Hossam Ghaly has expressed deep regret over his actions on leaving the pitch on Thursday night when he was substituted against Blackburn Rovers.

The Egyptian international, himself a 28th minute replacement for the injured Steed Malbranque, saw his number being held up by the fourth official after an hour to allow for the introduction of Robbie Keane. He responded to the cheering of the crowd over the change by removing his shirt and throwing it to one side before heading straight down the tunnel.

"I am just so angry with myself," said the midfielder. "I have always considered it an honour to wear the Tottenham shirt and I never intended to show any disrespect.

"I knew things weren't happening for me out there, my play was terrible and I could hear the crowd jeering me. I was so upset at the fans' reaction. I have enjoyed playing in front of the Club's supporters all season and I felt I had given of my best all the time and played some decent football. It is always hard to accept being substituted after such a short period of time and I was upset and taken aback by the cheering. I am a player who plays with my heart.

"I know my reaction was totally wrong. I have apologised to the manager and I also want to apologise to the fans. I hope they don't judge me on this incident alone. I have tried hard for the Club this season.

Jol has decided that Hossam will not be involved in the final game of the season on Sunday against Manchester City.

                                          -----------------------------------------

That's a tad better, at least it's an apology.
