The Reason Why 5th Is An Achievement.

Okay so after listening to those muppets before the Charlton game yesterday, going on about how 5th will not be a success(Assuming we'll got 5th), I thought I'd explain why IMO 5th is a great achievement for THFC.

There excuses were that we spent £20 odd million on new players, but he forgot to mention the fact that we also sold our most influentual player of last season, Michael Carrick.

The sale of Carrick meant that we had to completely change our style of play. If you look back to last season we had Carrick and Jenas in the centre, we'd give Carrick the ball and he'd play that killer pass, or a pass to get the move going. Now that we've sold him, we play a completely different style to that of last season.

Now we play attractive, fast flowing football, with players like Berbie, Keane, Malbranque who all love the ball to there feet. These three are also very intelligent, they see passes no one else sees, mainly Keane and Berbatov which is what makes them such a deadly combination.

Considering we've sold our best player of last season, and changed the way we play, also bringing in a few new faces who've needed to and have adapted brilliantly to the team and league, 5th is a good achievement which keeps us where we want to be.

With Jol at the helm only good things willhappen as far as i'm concerned, 2 years in a row in Europe, when was the last time we could say that?

Great post mate i totalty agree with you :spoton:

another things would be aswell, we have got to teh Q/F of further in every cup with is also a great achievement and to finish 5th as well will just top it off. But with purs every season i just think we could have done so much better and let away so many stupid results.

but if we still had carrick now i think berba would have scored about 30+ goals this season

Possibly mate, but I think Berbie prefers the ball to feet, which is why the style we play now really suits him and gets the best out of him.

The cups aswell is another thing, when was the last time we played so many games? Q/F of the FA and UEFA cup and Seni's of the Carling Cup.

Fantastic season.

If MJ can convince the team that the season starts from the first match, for the full 90 minutes and every match I think we could be in the c/l the following year.

I agree 5th place is an achievement we have done well in all cup competions and reached the quarter finals in two and one semi final carling cup. But I would agree on one thing that had we not sold one of our best players Michael Carrick this season Berba would have scored 30+ goals this season.

The one thing what let me down this season was not winning away from home but know we have sorted that out with 5 wins on the road.

I agree I think this has been a great season due to the transition which spurs are going though. With most of the first team being new in the camp in the last couple of years 5th would be the "icing on the cake" european qualification two years running has been unachievable for Bolton, Middlesborough, Everton, even with established squads. Also when was teh last time we had sustained runs in all of the Cups?

Now that Spurs are on the up, there is a campaign against us to ensure that we will never ever get any better than this stage. Our big names are apparently waiting for the hooks of Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool so they can jump ship.

It has been mentioned by the press and other football fans that Berbatov is far to good to be at Tottenham which is one of the reasons that he is so heavily linked to leave the Lane. Lennon, Chimbonda and Defoe are also meant to be subject for bids by the top clubs as well. We may have spent £20million but its clear that some spanner has forgotten we sold Carrick for about £16 million therefore bringing down the spending to just £4 million.

If we finish 5th, this season will have been better than last year.

I think 5th is a great achievement, we've played so many more matches than last season and the players have coped really well with the hectic schedule it could have gone so much worse. We've played some very attractive football and done well in every cup, anyone who says 5th place isn't good enough needs their head checking!!

Agree, agree, agree.  Considering how we've been yo-yoing up & down the table  all season, I think 5th is massive for us! There have been huge changes in the side since last season & it may take a whole year for them to settle down. Some of the results have shown that.

We know the big 4 are in a different league, but we're definitely closing the gap on them - we beat Chelsea & look how close we came to putting them out of the cup, then we only lost 1-0 at their place after a hard game 40 hrs earlier. The Ars*nal games could've gone our way too - if only our defending & staying power was better.

We've just got to prove that we can beat these teams consistently-at least at home.

BRING IT ON!!! :mf_swordfight:

I would say we couldn't really have asked 4 much more (apart from a trophy) but if weve been in the quarters of every cup, it shows weve been consistant, whereas in the league we might not have been as consistent but still that was after problably a hard cup game...

Also if you think about it i dont think we would have been able 2 get any higher than 5th, so with all the cup forms we'll probably still achieve our goal 2 reach 5th, plus we've done well in the cups. I think this season has ensured that many around the world know that we are a very good side and unfortunate 2 be in a league with 3 of the best teams in europe! Also all this talk about Berba leaving is a complete joke, every1s saying he will be unhappy coz the team aint good enough, but the team is the reason why were so good and i dont he was expecting 2 come 2 spurs and win a load of trophies...

Can't wait 2 see Spurs in a few years, with perhaps a new stadium our now matured squad and the 2nd best U18s developing in2 top quality players!

Gotta agree with whats been said. Another season 5th, we need to be more consistent and not be a yo-yo club.

As said before losing Carrick was a loss, we had Zokora, Ekotto, Berba etc in their first season. Plus the top 4 have moved away from everyone with their signings and money so adding that to all the cups we have been in this season is a success.

Not much can be added to what has already been said.

Great season all round and the future is very bright.

We have also scored 101 goals this season, the first time we reached 100 in two decades

Finishing fifth this season would be good.  It shows that we are still improving, finishing in the same place in the table after all the extra games and squad changes.  One or two new players coming in and a bit of stability in defence could see us in a top 4 spot

Well imo for what its worth if we do manage to get 5th again this year i will be chuffed to bits.
We have had great runs in all the cups, we play the most exciting football in the prem, and have started to form a Spurs team that a lot of clubs including the top 4 are starting to worry about.
Yes we had a bad start of the season and our away results let us down, but just think the way it has started to turn around this end of the season, what could we be capable of next season.
I think MJ has done a fantastic job managing Spurs and is just starting to get things moving his way.
Personally i cant wait for next season, with a couple of good signings im afraid to think of how exciting it will be.
I still think we have a way to go but its looking very good for us.
