It seems to me that BMJ's first choice centre midfield pairing is Jenas and Zokora, and I wondered if we thought that this would good enough.

I am not a huge Jenas fan, I should say, although I know a lot of people really do rate him.  Further, of course, BMJ picks him every time he is fit - talking of his "box to box" play - so happy to be persuaded on this.

As for Zokora, has not had the best of seasons.  I love his searing runs, but he does not do them enough and there is rarely an end product (just look at his shooting).

When we compare this pairing to Hargreaves/Scholes (probably), Mascherano/Alonso (or Gerrard), Lampard/Essien it will quickly be seen that our boys are a bit lightweight in my view.

I would, as always, welcome any views.  Are these boys OK, or do we need to spend some of our hard earned cash on someone a bit tasty?  If so, who?

I don't think that pairing is good enough in my view, not if we're serious about winning trophies. As it's been said before, we desperately need a left side midfielder & someone a bit 'tasty' (as you say) in the centre. Zokora has the potential but we need midfielders who can also score a few goals. Didier's shooting has been extremely poor.

Well, 1st of all screw Jenas.

We could always drop Keane into Attacking mid, he and Zokora would be deadly.

Remember Zokora had malaria while he was playing bad, and has been improving every game. Or we could keep Keane upfront and buy a quality AM like Sniejder or Van der Vaart.

Yeah. I think Jenas is a good player but unfortuately if we want to break into the top 4 we need someone with real class. Zokora is playing very well recently and I think is a first choice pick for next season. He will be more expirienced and will be a big player.

As for some bite then I think Kevin Nolan is a possibility.

For an AM I think we need a world class player like Sneidjer.

We need a Carrick type of player who can pass the ball around the park accurately.
JJ free kicks this season has not been the best but still scored 8 goals which is good.  As for a good midfielder Kevin Nolan is a possibilty.

It's def not good enough if we want to achieve great things. Jenas isn't a top player at all, he'll only ever be a good squad player. We'll have to wait and see next season whether Zok take that next step.

But a top CM is a must IMO, a true box to box player would be great. Someone that can link midfield to attack.

Yes, I could not agree more.  Jenas is a good worker, and a combination between him and Keane would be perfect (Kaka!).  There are always rumours re. Van Der Vaart, he is apparently pretty handy....

Van Der Vaart would be a good solution. But that is not the only department we need it's the left side of our midfield has well.

im all for downing he'll be a great player for us and i think that the bigger clubs might let us have him!, as for CM pair i cant see anyone better than what we've got as they'll get snapped up by the bigger teams, bigger transfer fees and bigger wages, maybe a solid injury free preseaon will get the team working together as a unit.
then again knowbodys mentioned tim cahill, i think he's great, but probally wont leave everton.
