why is there so much doom and gloom in this place
« on: December 27, 2012, 12:33:11 AM »
Haha in 2nd thought I wish I didn't bother asking this ...as we going to subject ourselves to the same boring rehearse crap.

Anyways It's time for me to make my point. Firstly as a spurs fan I don't think we have had it as good as this in a long time. With the squad we have now, we are no longer a 1 - 2 man team. The sales of Modric and VDV and to still be in the top 4 ( at time of writing) Shows that we can still compete after losing quality players.

A lot of our better players are still relatively young and the signing of Dembele and Vertongon seems to be quality purchases. So regardless of what your thoughts are of AVB it's players that win matches and I think we have a decent set here.

3 clean sheet and 4th in the league , I'm pretty happy!
I look at the team we put out and I think we will give anyone a good game. Predictions of 8th and below  , you got to be f**king of your rockers

Also as it's Xmas time skysports have been replaying "permier ship the early years. 97 /98 I think was the year  , Ars*nal wins the league and we the mighty Spurs confirm our premier safety on game 37  and finish the season with 45pts.  :)

Don't ask silly questions, mate! Very soon this thread will be all about how Villas-Boas and Levy should be sacked or preferably shot; how football was great when Redknapp was still around etc.

Whilst I agree with you that we have a very good squad, I still think last year it was better and deeper. I also think that indeed we have had it as good, and even better. The manager has done very well though with the players we have. I always said he would though.

This is not an invitation to get into the Harry/AVB/Levy debate.

But we need to look back at the situation to perhaps understand some of the doom and gloom. Aside from the personal issues and feelings about what happened. what can be said is that the episode, in the way it was done, the surprise that it was done and the result of that episode shocked most of us.

We the fans were never given any information or clues by those in charge to what happened, it was just done. We woke up one morning Harry was gone and the next thing AVB was in charge. Followed by silence. It was like to speak of it was a crime and we was all like WTF?

Some have just accepted, created their own reasons for what happened, some have accepted it but with caution and others opposed it from the beginning. In essence it divided us, something that has not been a part of my life as a Spurs supporter before.

I think it may be time for us all to close that division up, heal from what has happened and forgive. Otherwise the anger and resentment will dominate our emotions and I for one much prefer being positive about life.

Whatever you feel about what has happened or however we play, we are in 4th and winning enough games to at the very least have a good chance of staying there. If we do sign a key player or two, that job will be even easier.
Maybe next year...

Well said Dimexi, at last, someone who like myself and a good few others that are tired of the continuous repeated diatribe that is continually repeated about the same subject, and who keep resurrecting it, at every opportunity because they enjoy the debate on it simply cos they are new to the site. There are far more things to discuss. Do you not agree?

I don't know, there are more than enough characters and personalities, all with interesting, valid and differing opinions. I think we could still have some really thoughtful discussions between us.  :)

I agree, however, those that you accuse of "continuous repeated diatribe" would not succeed if it wasn't for those continuously replying to them with ones moaning. The best thing one can do if they didn't like something is ignore it, that way it would die a natural death (which they claim they want). Maybe those that complain secretly enjoy the said diatribe but are too scared to admit it so show the face of Janus; outwardly annoyed, but inwardly joyous. Why else would somebody moan but continue replying on the thread they are annoyed about MMMM? Sadomasochism?

To answer the main title; because AVB is doing well and their doom and gloom predictions looks like they are going to pot. What would cheer up this forum (at least for some) would be Spurs relegated, Harry reinstated and Ars*nal win the League. That way they can say "I told you so" and then throw a forum party.

s**t! Another Spurs win. Let us hope Sunderland win and we can get back on track. All together now "AVB out, AVB out!!!!

Not sure about the reasons behind the 'doom and gloom' stuff maybe some people are just naturally miserable bastards.
Earlier this year I was lucky enough to get back to England for the first time in 25 years and go and see a couple of games again at the Lane.
It goes without saying that i had a fantastic time. Two minor points that have stuck in my mind, One positive and one negative,
the Positive [apart from the football, the team, the Lane etc] was how the tension has disappeared I wax in a small pub near the ground before the Villa home match and it was packed with Villa and Spurs fans having a drink, a chat and a laugh. Now that wouldn't have happened a couple of decades ago.
The negative. At the same game some miserable bastard complained every time someone got to their feet with whining comments like 'You can see just as well sitting down'
Why on earth he was there was beyond me.

Regarding this season though.
I think some of the negativity has come from the fact that we are not really playing that well. We are doing well and it could be a great season but we are not playing well. Or at least we are not playing with the style that most of us expect.
One of our obvious strengths is our pace out wide and to use this we need to get the ball to Lennon and Bale early so they can stretch their legs [not so much in Lennons case I agree] but we seem to be so laboured in moving the ball forward, to the extent that by the time we finally pass wide our speed merchants are surrounded by 3 primate defenders. So Defore is often left running around like a headless chicken hoping for a deflected cross.
All three are world class players and it is frustrating to see them restricted in such a way.
I am not convinced with Ade and would be quite happy to see him sold and Ba ,Sniedder brought in [ah but Christmas has gone]
Dempsey is class player who seems unable to get on the same page as anyone else in the team so his 'good 'work tends to be a solo spot rather than part of a team plan. Dembele is class but so far has not replaced the creativity lost with Modric.
Exempt from any criticism is Vertonghan who is just outstanding.
I could go on but don't want to bore you all. What I am trying to say is that. We are achieving well but as yet we are still frustrating to watch. Being an optimist however i feel that real glory is a mere moment away and by the end of the season we will be feeling quite happy with the world as we look forward to Champions league football and lock the Europa cup away at White Hart Lane

Nice to read a happy post for a change.

There has been a fair amount of doom and gloom here from some, but in view of our latest results, the doom and gloomers have quietened down somewhat, at least until we lose or draw next, which as we all know is unavoidable.

Others have shown a cheerful attitude and have accepted the changes. I wouldn't say that they are all happy but at least they have supported the said changes like any good true supporter should do.

Now, the table doesn't lie and like you I am delighted to see our beloved club back in our rightful place after a decent display in the West Midlands.
