Re: 3rd win now unbeaten in 7 beat Man U at Old Trafford, how do you feel?

My answer is :

I still see fear in AVB's eyes, the fear of failure and I don't actually think deep down that he 100% believes he is going to succeed. It's his over emotional celebrations and quite bizarre choices of words in some of  his answers that still worry me.
I would love to see him develop into a great manager and lead us to Trophies and Honours but just a nagging doubt remains.
Onwards and upwards to the next challenge AVB prove me wrong if you can !!!!!

Whilst I agree that we clung on for dear life in the last 20 minutes or so, the thing is we clung on !!! For about the first time ever, we held out against a top top team, make no mistake. Man U have been in top 2 for 20 years, that builds a supreme confidence and arrogance that we can only dream about. As Fergie pointed out, their second half performance was their best of the season.
We should not underestimate our achievement on Saturday. For sure only time will tell if this is the start of something good, but I personally believe that we have good enough players, and are trying to play the right kind of football to beat most of what is put in front of us, if only the players can believe that.

I wonder if the Press will ease off his back a bit from now on?

Looking forward to Thursday!

Very good article, sums it up for me, especially regards Lampard.

Exactly. The problem comes from the player power. It's well documented how Alex Ferguson had a near disasterous start at ManU and now look at him - 2012 and still there and having won everything there is to win. And the reason - no player dares to f**k with him and those who have dared have been moved on quickly. Villas-Boas is a young manager, not exactly a ruthless type, and obviously had problems with Lampard & co, add a trigger-happy chairman and there you have it...

I hope the crap in the papers does ease off a bit. Unfortunatly what we read in the press seems to have transferred to the fans. It's only been 6 league games and the pressure on him already was immense. Hopefully the feel good factor of beating ManU will transfer to the lane, as the atmosphere seems to be really tense of late.

I lot was made of the win at Man U and rightly so, but IMO he should be judge at the end off the season and not after a win or lost.

We have a very good team here at the lane and with that team we can rightly expect the team to be pushing up the top end of the league. Losing Modders and RVD was a big blow as it took a lot of creativity out of the team but the team seems to have adapted now. It will be difficult, but i'm hoping we can push in to the top 4 again .

Very few would have seen the Man U result coming, however it did and it was a great boost for all the fans!!

BUT it is still early doors and the Man U result is now history, Spurs have some tough games coming up and we will see how far the team has moved on, it starts with Villa on Sunday not a huge game but a must win in terms of the team moving forward.

So things look positive can AVB take Spurs to the next level? only time will tell!!!

When I started this thread I did not know how it would go. It could have gone the way of the Troll but those of us with a little more football patience and realism sprinkled with optimism have been proved far more accurate in their assessments.

Aston Villa was the sort of game we may have lost in the past. Pulling of a big win against historically superior opposition, even when it did happen would surely be followed by a loss or 2 points lost in the final minute of injury. But not this time. We are now showing a development or change in style, a resilience when needed and pace, pace and so much pace. Teams will not want to play us, defenders will hate it.

Yes there are still areas we can work on but the idea that AVB will be out before Christmas is now looking silly to plain daft. Unless it all starts going horrendously wrong AVB will be manager for the foreseeable future. Anyone who thinks differently is merely holding on desperately to their own misplaced pride and rather than admit they were wrong will pray for it all to go wrong. Just so they can say 'I told you so'.

Well here is me looking smugster and long may it continue.
Maybe next year...

You never know, but we certainly won't be able to ride our luck like that on Saturday. Not that we ever have a particularly wonderful time at Old Trafford.

I'll get an AVB tattoo if we win on Saturday.

Can we have photo proof of the tat?
