Reading v Spurs - Reading Chat
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:41:45 PM »
A warm hello to all Spurs fans from Royals Rendezvous … look, just to let you know we’ve prepared a very detailed match presentation on the Reading v Spurs game from our Reading forum, and the fullest respect shown to TOTTENHAM from our friendly site with full information produced equally for both sets of fans – but in all honesty far, far more on your team.

It's here:  http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/topic/9701186/1

It would be really interesting for us to have any comments from you below, like how you see the game going and general thoughts on your own team, and your (honest!) opinion of Reading. I promise that your user name and the “Spurs Network” would always be duly credited for any small reference or quote taken from this thread … and we’ve also given your site a few nice brief words too!

All the best for a good game,

daib0 / “Royals Rendezvous”

I know some people don’t particularly like other fans producing a shopping list of questions to answer, and I perfectly understand that, so I leave any comments freely and totally with you. But if you like, these following points might be used as a very basic guide in case you’d like to write to something slightly longer, but don’t feel at all pushed to go along this road if it doesn’t suit you:

A] What are currently the strongest areas of YOUR squad, and how do they click together?
B] Who should Reading specially look out for / fear most of your squad?
C] Any young stars coming through the youth academy that we should keep an eye on, now or in the future?
D] How strong do you see the general level of the premier this season?
E] Realistically, where do you hope Spurs might finish if all goes more-or-less well?
F] Any general opinions of Reading FC - either for or against (you can be honest!)

Spurs Network . com – http://spursnetwork.com/forums/index.php?action=forum
A nice smaller site, that concentrates much more on purely Spurs orientated stuff (they do have other sections but comments are not very fluid),

Could you please explain what you mean by this?
Maybe next year...

Probably that SN is not as active as it used to be. Much of the old guard has left and some of the newer faces only tend to post negative thoughts and pretty much the same in every thread.  ::)

That wasn't meant as a criticism at all. The Spurs chat is great, but I was only looking at it from a friendly away fan's point of view. Think where we're initially most likely to post. I gave the last comment in the 'Other English Football' section on 2nd September and there hasn't been a comment since. In the 'World Football' part I made the last comment on 10th August. I don't think it's entirely right for me to come barging in as a 'newbie' and give my impressions on, let's say, your transfer news when obviously you know the scene far better than me. But I think if you read the Match presentation on Royals Rendezvous you'll all see that it's 90% dedicated to Spurs, and respectfully so ...

Wasn't being defensive. I think Riffhard you got it bang on. I was interested to see how a non-spurs fan viewed the comments on hear. Maybe some of the posters here should have a look at themselves. It would be nice to have a debate (intellectual or otherwise ;) ) that tried to break new ground. Reacting, contemplating, adjusting and evolving our views as and when better ideas come forward. Changing direction when necessary and knowing when a debate or topic has run its course.

Instead we get the same old repeated rhetoric, usually of a negative nature. Engaging with this is very difficult at times especially when they think that by saying the same thing in a very slightly different way it become more interesting or worthwhile.

Has the traffic of posts lessened more recently? If so maybe the mods should be proactive in stepping into a debate that needs some guidance or ending it if necessary. Also, maybe we should spend time talking about football in general rather than just about spurs.
Maybe next year...

Far from me trying to interfere in your running, and it basically looks great anyway, but when Royals Rendezvous was about a year old we tried to get a few opinions coming in too, and I well remember what the Watford WFC Forums mods told us, something like "make sure things don't stay still. Don't be afraid to open new sections, close or merge ones that look weaker, and be prepared to say to members that you tried an idea but it didn't work".
There may be new avenues to explore - for example, on RR we introduced a 'Local Issues' sections about 6 months ago and it's been a fantastic success (like on local news, projects, best bars/nightclubs, policing, council decisions, locally famous people, the list is endless). Another example is that we decided to put all football polls in a special section, and only there, now members know and there are always 2 or 3 different polls on the go.

But your site looks fine to me, so don't worry at all!!

Some good points you've got there, mate.
