Realistic Ambition !
« on: August 12, 2012, 12:39:09 PM »
Ok so we have all had our say about all the happenings over the summer some of us are happy, some of us are angry and some of us are undecided so.............

What are our hopes and what are realistic feelings on what this season will hold ?

I for one believe that we should be finishing top 4 as a minimum and should be pushing for the title if luck is on our side. I also think that a cup win would be realistic but not the Uefa cup as this competition drains resources at an alarming rate. This would be based on last years performances and the Chairman going out and buying players in positions that we all know we are short in (i.e Top Class Striker etc etc etc).

Realistically though I can see us struggling to maintain a top 6 position and feel that we will pour too much effort into the cups in which we will ultimately fail and end up being knocked out in the quarters at best !!!
I predict a season of under achievement and a return to where we were 4 years ago !!!

:'(

Please I don't want to start an argument over this I just would like t know what people actually think realistically about this season !!!

What the hell is Eufa cup? Maybe you meant UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Cup which is called Europa League these days.

Anyway, I cannot see anything good coming unless we get at least two quality strikers in. Putting our hopes on Defoe having a 30 goal season (in a single striker line-up) is probably stupid and without goals we stand no chance in the league. I would like us to win some silverware, whether it is League Cup, Europa League or something else. And the ones who say League Cup and Europa League are not worth winning, must be Man United or Real Madrid fans in disguise because the last time I checked the Spurs have won only two cups since 1991.

With the manager we now have I feel we could sign the entire Barcelona squad and still be fighting against relegation.

After a good positive start to the transfer window signing JV and Sigs things have gone dead the much needed striker(s) doesnt look like its going happen yet again and I fear that without at least one palyer up front who knows where the goal is how are we expected to maintain let along surpass last seasons 4th place.

I still maintain that AVB is a decent appopintment, a young manager who is hungry and a better tactican than Arry, but he is being set up for failure by Levy if we do not get the much needed signings, even AVB said 1 striker is needed!

At this point I expect us to finish 5th or 6th, have a run in all cup competitions but 1/4s or semis at best.  Europa League lets use it for the young guns again and really focus on the league.

AVB was the man Levy wanted so how about he be supported  by Levy and we go get the players he has in his sights.

THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

6th

Usual cup semi heartache in one of the cups

As we spend far less on wages than at least 5 other clubs in the division i think we have not exactly overachieved but perhaps just performed above our level for a couple of years. As soon as Messi missed the pen for Barca i switched the tv off and somehow knew we were screwed.

If we had made champs league i think we would have found getting a striker far easier, as it is i think the usual last minute run around selling and not buying very well. I agree with UGS we are now going backwards but i am just not so prepared to blame Levy and AVB for that happening.

Perhaps i am just more forgiving than some!

Shame i dont even have a feeling of 'it will be alright in the end we will get some good players in' i lik ewhat we have bought so far but the striker story is tragic, probably buy Crouch back on deadline day....

Can we call it a crisis at this point? 1 senior striker!?!? This is f**king ridiculous. I'm totally willing to give AVB a chance, but is Levy? What chance does he have with one striker who can't play on his own up front. I read that AVB plans on starting Kane against Newcastle.

If we're talking ambition based on these signs, then I don't even want to answer that. I don't want to be overly negative, but this is a huge problem. We're heading into this season with the weakest attacking options I can remember.

As it stands now without a ball being kicked my gut feeling is that it will be a long hard season, Europa cup action brings to many games, leauge form always suffers just look at the stats!

The worry is where the goals are going to come from Defoe has been well below par so dont see that changing!

So I stick my neck out

Leauge Position 7th (May improve if exit Europe early)

I hope I have to eat my words but right now the vibes coming out of Spurs do not inspire me

With the squad as it stands I think that it will be a struggle to score enough goals across all the competitions. Even if Defoe steps up to the trust given to him and Kane storms it in his first season. We simply do not have the depth to challenge effectively. Any injury, not even a long term one, would put us in a difficult situation. We all know that another first team striker is necessary, even a squad player is not enough. Unless our plan is to play like Spain 4-6-0, and we actually achieve something close to that, we are in trouble.

I have been holding back on my criticisms on AVB, still too soon to say. But I have not been impressed by the Chairman's lack of movement and decisiveness in the transfer market. Even with the best possible outcome from this point, i.e. we suddenly complete the signing of a good striker, the timing of it has been terrible.

If we pull off a great signing or two 4th or 5th.

However, if the team remains as it is then I will be impressed if we finish higher than 6th. If we stay injury free and Defoe plays out of his skin 6th, but if injuries hit 7th - 10th.

Never been so pessimistic about our chances. Baldbloke you will be proud.
Maybe next year...

To stay up would be nice. We have one striker and a dreadful manager.

Enough said  :-\

And lack of support from a few !!!!!

However I still think we are in for a shout for a top 4 finish and maybe a trophy of some sort.

You can post as many positive remarks about Spurs as you like. I have been a season ticket for a long time and have missed only a few home games in 15 years, despite a 120 mile round trip. I have traveled abroad to see my team no less than 8 times and spent 1000s of pounds. This gives me the right to say what I like. Unfortunately our chairman decided to sack the best manager we had for years and employ probably the worst we have ever had. We have been desperate for at least one quality striker since January, and here we are at the end of August with the only hope being an overpaid flop under the name of Adebayor. When AVB gets sacked and we get a chairman who is prepared to spend some of the clubs wealth on quality players I will be more positive. Until that point expect more comments that reflect the position the club is in.
