Moutinho on his way?
« on: July 15, 2012, 05:53:37 PM »
At the Fun day yesterday, Gary Mabbutt was doing a Q&A session. He specifically mentioned Moutinho as a player he could see coming to Spurs. I think he is well placed to know what is happening inside at Spurs. For him to actually name this player speaks volumes to me. He could easily have been more general, saying that if Modric leaves, we would have to look to replace him with quality, etc etc. I think that this deal is nailed on, Modric to Madrid and Moutinho to spurs all on the same day, if they are sensible. I think he was outstanding in the Euros, better than Modric actually, although he did have better players around him which helps.

Would Moutinho replacing Modric, satisfy you? Would he be seen as a step forwards, backwards or sideways?

I think this deal could work for us. Modrić doesn't want to play for anymore and should simply get his slavic ass out of the door ASAP. Moutinho would want to play for us because we are being managed by his country-man.

Please don't get all Berbatov about Modric he is a class player who has given us 4 years or sublime football, I'm sure that if we were in the Champions League he would stay, It's only fair that a player of his ability should be playing Champions League and remember he stayed last season and still played to the best of his ability on a third of the money he could get elsewhere unlike a certain Berba who just sulked.

I don't think Moutinho is as good a player as Modric and we also have Sigardsson but if he comes then I wouldn't be unhappy !!

Also worth factoring in that we will probably be playing a different formation next year. Likely to be 4-3-3. so Sigurdsson, Parker, Moutinho would make a good 3 man midfield.
Maybe next year...

Its the deal we want and need. As has been stated, Modric has wanted to go for a year now, and who can really blame him ? Lets not forget that speculation regards him, and very late transfer activity played its part in our dreadful first 2 games of the season.

It would appear that Levy has at least learnt from that, and is hopefully trying to get it all done now, so that all new players have a chance to settle in before the new season, not a month into it.
