54 And Counting

Michael Dawson is gearing up for game number 54 out of 55 in his incredible season - and he wouldn't have it any other way.

The central defender has only missed one game all season and that when suspension ruled him out at Manchester City in December.

Now an England squad regular, 'Daws' was on the bench for the Carling Cup game at MK Dons but had to come on for injured Calum Davenport in the second half.

"I've got used to it," reflected Michael on the the demanding schedule. "It's been play, rest day, training then another game for most of the season but we've got a full week's training now, we won't know what to do with ourselves!

"It's been fantastic and I'll never complain about playing too many games.

"It's great to be out there and involved. It's not always rosy, you have ups and downs and there are disappointments but it's how you respond to it that counts."

Sunday's trip to Wigan was typical of the season - our fifth game in 15 days in a spell that included the UEFA Cup quarter-final over two legs against Sevilla.

In the end, the lads had to battle back on three occasions as Emile Heskey, Leighton Baines and Kevin Kilbane put the home side 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 up but Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane twice made sure we came home with at least a point.

"It's a tough place to go, Wigan are fighting for survival and after going behind three times, you have to be happy with a point," added Michael. "If we'd have gone ahead three times, we'd have been disappointed not to win.

"We went 1-0 down inside a minute and it's never ideal to concede so early, we did the same against Sevilla on Thursday night and that hit us hard but we showed spirit there and again at Wigan. We stuck together and forced ourselves back into it. We could have felt sorry for ourselves up at Wigan after what happened against Sevilla but credit to the lads, we kept going."

Dawsome!

Playing 54 games is an incredible feet. He never lets us down and gives it his all. Great player to have.

Agreed Biggs, he should be a candidate.

He's getting better and better every match, he'll replace Terry and Ferdinand soon.

I agree, solid performer, no drama, no hysterics, total concentration for the full game, every game.

Dawson is Awsome. He is one of the best centre backs in the Premiership imo.
Without him there is no way would be where we are and if we had king aswell we would be in the top five for sure.

He's been imense this season, Spurs player of the year and should have been shortlisted for the young player award.

No offence to Keane but I think Daws should be vice captain, he is a natural leader

Yeah thank goodness though with the King sidelined someone had to step up big time. Good thing about Daws is the fact he seems to enjoy it all so much.

Daws has been nothing short of amazing this season. His work rate is phenomenal, he goes for every ball and without him God knows where we would be right now!

"cometh the hour,cometh the man"
He stepped up when King went down and he has been immense.
Non stop, every game and it's good to see him enjoying it so much.
Usally goal scorers get all the glory but I'd say he was the player
of the season.:first:

has anyone else noticed the way Daws will often pick the ball up from Robbo or Rocha and then smash a 60 yard diagonal ball to the left wing, with perfect accuracy. It's like watching Gerrard. Not sure if he can hit it anywhere else. But the left wing is always spot on... well, akmost always.
