Tottenham have confirmed that Lee Young-pyo will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.

The South Korean international tore his ligaments in the first leg of the Uefa Cup quarter-final defeat to Sevilla and will now undergo surgery in a bid to correct the problem.

His rehabilitation is likely to last up to three months, meaning Spurs boss Martin Jol will be without the full-back for the club's final five games of the campaign.

"It's a shame for Young-pyo," Jol told the club's official website. "He's having surgery and will be out for the rest of the season and a big part of May and June as well.

"Hopefully he'll be back in July for our pre-season preparations but as it stands, he'll be out for two-and-a-half to three months."

Lee made 30 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this season, having battled with young Frenchman Benoit Assou-Ekotto for the left-back position.

He's done well for the last few weeks and we're missing him at the back big time.

Do you think he'll be with us next season? He was heavily linked with Roma not long a go and was even ready to move to them before the deal fell through.

That's bad news but unsurprising. I would like to see him at Spurs next season unless of course we manage to buy someone of world class quality.
