Taarabt claims Tottenham deal

Adel Taarabt claims he has signed a contract at Tottenham that will keep him at White Hart Lane for the next five years.

The French youngster joined the North London club on loan from Lens during the January transfer window, with a view to a permanent move.

Taarabt is enjoying his new surroundings and says he has already committed to Martin Jol's side for the long-term.

However, the permanent deal can only become official when the midfielder turns 18 at the end of May.

Taarabt, who played the final 25 minutes of Spurs' defeat to Chelsea on Saturday, is delighted with his decision to move to the Premiership.

"I am not on loan, I have signed for five years but the contract will be official when I am 18 years of age," he told RMC.

"It is a nice story for me. I belong to Spurs. I feel very good, this club trusts youngsters and there are French players Pascal Chimbonda and Steed Malbranque, and Didier Zokora and Teemu Tainio speak French.

"I was watched by Tottenham scouts when I played with the France Under 17 team.

"I asked Lens to play, but they told me I was too young. Spurs representatives told me I would regularly play with them, so I immediately agreed to move. They love French people there.

"In England you have to attack for the fans. Even if you lead 3-1 at home, you add more strikers, whereas in France you replace strikers with defenders."

Meanwhile, Taarabt has stated his desire to represent France in international football, despite also being eligible to play for Morocco.

"I am French, my family is from Morocco but I would prefer to play for France," he added.

So he's our player but not officially, strange one. Anyway, can't wait for next season to see what he's really like.

Excellent. Was starting to think some one else would jump in and sign him, seems like the kid really loves the club, a 5 year contract aswell!
Can't wait to see more of him.

Yeah, the guy looks brilliant.

I think we should start him soon in place of Jenas...

Not for Jenas. JJ is class and we struggle without him. When he was injured it was no coincedence that it coincided with our bad run.

Great news about Adel, top talent, will do well for us I'm sure and may cure our left sided problems

When Jenas plays well he is very influential, but recently he's having a 'nothing' patch, and if one more game he plays crap, i think Tarbuck should come in, to see how he does in 90 minutes. :)

Good news bout taraabt but theres no way he should be starting in front of jens this season or next.

I think jj is extremely underrated by Spus fans and he does a lot of the nitty gritty stuff for us without people realising.

He scores crucial goals at crucial times and its not a coincedence hes one of the only "untouchables" in jols midfield plans

yh suddenly i got a bit wierded out when he went on about alll our french players. lol
i am glad hes happy here. do you think the west ham match went alot to him? i think i was the best possible way to introduce him into the team (apart from winning the uefa cup). i think this deal was done as he said something similar on his own site but spurs said it was a loan.

Good stuff! The guy's got a lot of potential from the bits of him we've seen this year. Investing in youngsters has got to be the way to go.
