Defoe

With all this talk of new strikers, forlan etc. I was thinking of how much of a bad season Defoe had, I think after the summer break he's gonna be refreshed and raring to go
IMO i think Defoe will be like a new signing this season with 20 plus goals which we really missed last season.
What are people's thoughts on the season Defoe could have?   Discuss

I think you are right Defoe cannot possibly have another season as bad as the last. Providing he can be injury free and get a decent run of games he should come good again. My only fear for him would be that we bring in 2 top quality strikers and he finds himself on the bench for most games, which would no doubt result in him seeking a move in January.

Honestly, as good as Defoe is, i just don't think he fits how we need to play anymore. 2 years ago when Defoe had his big season, same year Bale really broke out and we made the Champs league, we were catching people on the counter and using Bale, Lennon, and Defoe to shred opposing teams with pace. The EPL is too smart a league to let that happen again; now teams aren't coming up the field against us as much, they're having their backs sit further back to defend against that.

And as much as I think Defoe is and can be a world-class striker, he's incapable of making his own shot, and he's too small and lacks the vision to play well in traffic. I think the best thing that can happen at this point is that he gets off to a good start for us this year and then we sell him on in January to make room and funds for another striker. It really does pain me to say it, cuz Defoe is a class player and was a huge part of our first CL run... but he just doesn't fit our gameplan anymore.

I think if we're relying on Defoe to score 20 goals next season then we are in big trouble.

Couldnt agree more!

Hoping that a misfiring striker will come good is a huge gamble, we need fresh talent that has the ability to meet the ambitions of the club and deliver goals.  Currently none of our strikers fit the bill!

The only one I would keep is Pav!

Time for new blood, he hasn't really done anything for the last 3 seasons time for him to move on to new challenges, probably shouldn't have come back from his spell at Portsmouth !!!!

Lack of transfer activity is a huge concern, we need to move our dead weight players

Totally agree, but Defoe is definately not one of these dead wood players

Defoe is not deadwood but he certainly is not who we should be expecting a hatful of goals from next season and relying on as he is not good enough!

A new striker to partner him may work wonders, though I do remember that Defoe /Pav was starting to work well late on in the season but then Arry swapped Pav for Crouch again.

I'd put Defoe squarely in the "on the block" group of players. I'm not going to be upset if we don't move him this summer, but at the same time if we get a decent bid for him (10m or so) i want Levy to jump at it.

Defoe can score goals but it seems every player Spurs pair him with he cant play with them! Keane, Bent, Crouch Pav De Vart he never seems to be able to hold the ball / or hold off a challenge and gives it away a lot his movement is also suspect, having said all this I have always been a fan of his but I think he needs a new challenge question is could Spurs get anything better?? :nope:

I don't think he does well when he has to compete for a starting place. Kind of a diva.
