Chairman's Statement
« on: June 19, 2011, 09:32:40 AM »
It would appear that I was the only one confident enough to say Modric will stay. Well done Mr Chairman

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Statement by Club Chairman, Daniel Levy
18 June 2011

"I wish to make it absolutely clear, as I have said previously, that none of our key players will be sold this summer. We are building a team for the future to consistently play at the highest level and retaining quality players is crucial to that.

"In respect of Luka Modric, we are not prepared to sell, at any price, to Chelsea Football Club or any other club.

"We made our stance on this issue abundantly clear in writing to Chelsea. They chose to ignore it and then subsequently made the offer public.

"For the avoidance of any doubt, let me reiterate that we shall not enter into any negotiations whatsoever, with any Club, regarding Luka.

"We now consider this matter closed."

Take a bow Mr Levy

However, if he does sell him...............
"Any player coming to Spurs whether he's a big signing or just a ground staff boy must be dedicated to the game and to the club. He must be prepared to work at his game. He must never be satisfied with his last performance, and he must hate losing."

Don't think we have heard the end of this just yet.
We will be fighting a uphill battle to be honest, if the player really wants to go , then he will push thru a deal no matter what the chairman says. I ain't saying nothing New really,  as we have all seen this situation over and over again. It will get to a point where the price is so high and the player so determined to go, that a transfer is the best for both clubs involved.

I do see a small chance of Modders staying, because he does seem like a good lad. Hopefully the chairman and Harry can convince him of the clubs ambitions, I'm sure an extra couple of $$$$ will help smooth it through aswel. As modders said he wont hand in a transfer request , if he sticks to his words then that will make it a bit easier to keep him.

Hate to use this as an example, but Fabrigas has openly admitted that he would love to join Barca. But up to now has refused to hand in a transfer request, which has made it easier for the arse to keep him.

I said this a number of time already, that we really needed to buy some players in quick, our targets should had be identified already. of course in realitly it not that simple, but we really need to show our intent for next season. The fact that modders is indicating he now wants to leave , shows this needs even more.

what is for certain is that this will go on till the window closes , thats if the tranfer hasn't already happen before that.

By the way baldy was that a sarcastic statement?

Because in another thread you wrote...

"If I actually knew you I would quite happily have a £5 bet that Modric is on his way. He will get champions league football, win trophies and double his salary. At present he plays for a club that thinks signing a 41 year old goalkeeper is the way forward.

If I were him and Sir Alex came knocking I would be off like a shot."

Well done baldie! Modders will have to be "hugged" by Harry to reassure him that by staying with the club he will be in CL next season by us bringing in new talent. This little scrap could actually be good for us

Its not over yet, its either truth what Levy has said or is laying it down for a huge bid if they really want modders!

Also if Modders really wants to go he will be off at some point.

We do have a shot at keeping him, its down to Levy and Arry to convince he that he can achieve his personal goals with us, but we as a club have to match his ambition! Lets see some decent transfers Friedel wasnt a great start!

If chelsea or any othr club come back with £35 + mill levy will sell .Don`t kid yourself that he won`t .He`ll say that "After long and exhausting talks with luca it was obvious that he didn`t want to play for the club anymore and myself and harry thought it counter productive to keep an unhappy player " .Who fancies a bet (winner takes sod all :-) .I`m really struggling to keep my faith in spurs these days . Almost every time we get a world class player we fail to hang on to him .If modric is sold then levy can shove it up his arse .As for brad friedel , i can`t see why there is so much negativity .So what if he`s 41 ! He`s a bloody good goalkeeper .Who`s around that` younger and better ? Joe hart wouldn`t leave city and would cost a fortune anyway .Ben foster ? ???

Erm Gomes!!!!!!! he is way better and Friedel could only make teh types of saves Gomes does in his wetest dreams!  Plus we are aiming to challenge for the league and a CL spot..... Villa certianly arent and they dont want the OAP yank!

Well I am hoping Parksy will be working with Gomes in the closed season in relation to catching!

Gomes all round is better, he makes more saves that wins or keeps us points than what his few blunders have cost!  The greatest keeper ever Peter Smiemichael even made blunders it happens as a keeper, Gomes holds records for us beating Jennings, Clemence and Erik the Viking!  His confidence took a knock he will come back better!  One thing is certain he old Brad will add some competition but IMO both Gomes and Cud are better!

Was i the only one who watched both games against chelsea this year ? That twat cost us 4 points against them .He makes some brilliant saves then throws the ball in his own net .Time to get rid i say .Friedel is a class keeper and he`ll do well for us .I don`t think villa had any say in him leaving .He wanted out and could have gone back to liverpool but chose us .

Did he really? Yes he made a mistake for the Drogba goal but I seem to remember him saving a last minute pen?

He saved Lampard's shot so didn't cost us anything.

Gomes's mistakes were few, its just regrettable that came in a bad patch around the Madrid games. Overall, he has been steady for us.
