Supporters player of the year.
« on: May 22, 2011, 09:13:38 AM »
Luka Modric was named our Supporters Clubs Player of the Season in a ceremony at Spurs Lodge today (Saturday, May 21).
The midfield maestro took the prestigious award voted for by our Supporters Clubs worldwide.
Gareth Bale and Benoit Assou-Ekotto also picked up awards as Supporters Clubs from America to Australia, the Isle of Wight and closer to home in the UK were represented at the Supporters Clubs Awards at the training ground.
The fans watched training before the ceremony.
Luka’s outstanding performances in midfield secured the Player of the Season Award, presented by Darren Marsh of the Swindon Spurs Supporters Club.
"I'm delighted to receive this award and I'd like to thank all the supporters for voting for me," Luka told the supporters.
"It means a lot to me and I'm really happy to win it.
"I've enjoyed the season, especially as it was the first time we played in the Champions League.
"We all hoped to finish in the top four again but we will now try to beat Birmingham to finish fifth and play in the Europa League."
Gareth’s wonderful chest-high volley at Stoke back in August won the Supporters Clubs Goal of the Season Award, presented by Daniel Hitchins of Chicago Spurs.
"It's not something I really practiced," admitted Gareth. "The ball came over and I just tried to keep it on target. You don't think about it too much. It was a spur of the moment thing and thankfully it went into the top corner.
"There have been plenty of good moments this season and it's hard to pick out one. It's been a great season for me and for everyone."
The third and final award was the Spur of the Season Award, an award for ‘effort, attitude and performance’ over the season and it went to super-consistent left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto.
This award was presented by Tim Smart from the Isle of Wight Supporters Club.
"I really enjoy playing for Spurs," said Benoit, before picking out the win at Ars*nal as his highlight. "We know how important that game is for everyone."
"It's been my life, Tottenham Hotspur,
and I love the club."

So very well deserved! A fab player who will be revered for years to come. His style and panache makes him a true Spurs legend! Was worried that Bale would get it due to all the hype mid-season, so this shows fans recognise the service Luka has put in, again.

Good to see I picked the winner! Looking foward to thanking him at the end of the game when he collects his award.
"Any player coming to Spurs whether he's a big signing or just a ground staff boy must be dedicated to the game and to the club. He must be prepared to work at his game. He must never be satisfied with his last performance, and he must hate losing."

Well deserved and earned by the Croatian maestro.

There was a very good interview with him in the Mail on Saturday when he stated that he has no intention of leaving and wanted to try and win things with Spurs. His family is settled and he loves London but he did say that you can never say never in Football !!!!

Let's hope he stays true to his word and stays along with Bale, Van der Vaart, Huddlestone, Sandro, Dawson etc etc etc..... but hopefully bye bye Jenas !!!!
