Training makes the team
« on: May 15, 2011, 05:48:02 PM »
Now, we are all aware of current situation regarding Harry and his tactics, substations and team selections etc.

Well, I was watching football focus maybe a fortnight ago and Mr Lee Dixon was talking about players and team selections...he went onto say about players in training. Dixon made the point that players earn there starting positions in training by showing the manager and training staff they are worthy a staring place.

This lead me to the debate of how many times Harry has not picked Krancjar, and has seemingly picked Pienaar over the Croatian countless times.

Well my theory goes along with Lee Dixons point they maybe just maybe Krancjar and Pav etc arent showing the coaches anything to justify their place in the starting 11. If a player isn't doing it in training why the should he be picked for matches?

I don't believe Harry has a problem with the players who aren't in the team, I think the players need to show more to Harry in training to get a start.

You're right about there probably being a valid reason for it, such as training. For him to have come off the bench twice in a row and score and then be dropped back to the bench surely indicates something is going on other than Redknapp simply having his faves.

I feel that Redknapp has relied far too heavily on Bale this season. It's understandable, but I don't think he has fully taken advantage of the players at his disposal until injuries have forced him to do so.

I know these are very different injuries, but look at the way Valencia was returned to the United squad after his injury. It wasn't "ok, the medical staff have cleared you to play so now you're going to play every single minute of every single game."

"Whenever BAE's hair isnt in corn rows he plays poorly. You may laugh but it is a proven statistical fact." -bigv

I agree Harry has probably played Bale too much this season but at the same time he wanted to play our strongest team when Bale was fit.

In my opinion when Pienaar came in he was steady without being exciting unlike Bale.

Yes Krancjar didnt play enough and maybe Harry has his favourites, I'm not so convinced. Maybe Harry though "well we've just signed Pienaar I better play him" that I also am not convinced on.

It could well be a mix of all 3 of these factors to why Pienaar is getting ahead of Krancjar.

1. Harry's favourites
2. Newly signed.
3. Hard work in training

I think it was the same with Bentley. I remember reading that Harry simply didn't play Bentley because he was just fooling around in trainings and Harry thought it was unprofessional. And Pavlyuchenko often looks lazy and disinterested in games, I doubt he's more motivated in training.

Hasn't Pav scored the combined number of Defoe and Crouch in the Prem League? Not saying he deserves to be a starter, but he does seem to do the job well. I remember seeing vids of Billy Nic saying Greavesy was a lazy so & so in training, and even smoking fags, but on match day he did his job superbly.

Well, football and other professional sports have moved on from the sixties. Back in those days players smoked during half-time whereas I'm not sure they are even allowed to smoke at all nowadays (which of course doesn't mean they don't). The problem with Pavlyuchenko might be that reportedly he still can't speak English.

Problem is that we don't get points in training, we get them on match days. Some players may look great in training but when it comes to the big day they clam up. Of course other players are the opposite !!

So very true............I guess its like Defoe.........he probably puts ina  good shift at the Lodge, but on match days he becomes a jaffa
