« on: April 18, 2011, 06:38:13 AM »
Gareth Bale has been named as the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year. The full story can be found on Sky Sports site. Well done, lad! Other Spurs players who have won this award are:
Pat Jennings (1975/1976), Clive Allen (1986/1987), David Ginola (1998/1999). of other Spurs-related players, Gary Lineker, Les Ferdinand and Teddy Sheringham have also won the award but they were playing for other clubs when they won.

Crazy since he hasn't even been our best player. Congrats though.

That reminds me of when John Lennon was told Ringo had been voted best drummer in the world. Lennon turned his nose up and said that Ringo was not even the best drummer in The Beatles.
I suppose it's just a question of profile and at the moment Bales is high, and deservedly so. But you are right he hasn't been consistently our best player and as teams are learning to handle him he becomes less and less effective. For my money our player of the season is B.A.E the guy just keeps getting better and better.

Madness, he's not even Spurs best player, that would go to Modric. Bale is a fine player but certainly not the prems best !!

Why say that people are never happy? I'm delighted for him but not one person I have spoken to believes he's been our best player this season, let alone the whole league.

Maybe he has been, maybe he hasn't - who knows. As many as there are fans there are opinions. I think that Bale has deserved this award and I believe it can boost his motivation to play even better.

Ryan Giggs won it in 2009 and hardly did anything that year for United.

I would probably agree that Bale may not have had a good a season as some and was suprised to have herard him win the award, but its shows the recognition he is getting and just how far he has come.

Like many things in football, this can be argued till the cows come home who deserves the award.

Giggs winning it is up there with the joke of the so called team of the year.

Modric has been ten times better imo but like you said, different people = different opinions

I hope it gives him a boost (doubt he needs it though) goal on Wednesday please.

Great achievemnt and recognition for OUR Bale! Its good have a THFC player get the award.

I know what many mean by saying he hasnt been our best player etc but look at it this way, in a short space of time Bale has gone from struggling to get into the team to having the entire world of football sit up and take notice of him through some blinding displays, one of which was against Inter! those displays instead of regular consistancy is what has earnt him the award, as lets face it show us a player that didnt think wow!

Fair play its great for the lad  !

Injury free next season whilst playing for us please would be double awesome

THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!
