Rafael van der Vaart insists any issues between himself and Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will have 'blown over' by the time he returns from international duty.

The Holland midfielder was not happy at being substituted during the goalless draw against West Ham on Saturday, heading straight down the tunnel rather than watching the rest of the match.

Redknapp was less than impressed by the 28-year-old's actions, claiming in his post-match interview: "If you are part of a team you should stay to watch the rest of the game."

The substitution marked the 17th time this season Van der Vaart has been replaced and denied the chance to play a full 90 minutes.

And the Dutch ace insists he was not being disrespectful, but was just disappointed at not being able to see out the entire game.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Van der Vaart said: "I read that Harry Redknapp wanted to talk with me, but I did not see him before I left for Holland.

"But at Tottenham they cannot be angry with me. I also did the same thing against AC Milan [in the Champions League].

"I played well, and did not find the substitution necessary. Often I like to play 90 minutes, but at Spurs that hardly ever happens.

"I won't be back for 10 days, by then a lot of it will have blown over."

Van der Vaart is expected to play a key role for Holland as they look to stay on course for Euro 2012 in their Group E double-header against second-placed Hungary.

I don't really think that is necessary from Rafa, subbed twice and already throwing his toys out the pram.

No one is bigger than tottenham. Id say drop him for a while as he can sometimes cause an imbalance in the team. Pav should get a run in the side and forge a decent partnership with whichever goal starved striker harry is loving the most at the time. Its win win!!!

Dont you think they are very different players? Both very skilled and creative, but Modric is very much a midfiled playmaker whilst VDV is always surging forward to pick up any loose balls off the strikers (do we still have any? lol). Interesting comment though bolty.

Not much of a story and not much of a sulk if you ask me. He seems cool about it so unless the English media jump on the story and continually try to bring it up in the coming months i would suggest it is a classic 'nothing to see here, move on' situation.

I do think they can play in the same team but it does depend on the other teams tactics and formation.
 
Sometimes it just makes sense to have the team shape up a different way or as Harry seems to like using The Tumbola of Tactics, just see what comes out and go with it.

I dont think he is, like I said in a different thread I think it's just his frustration at not finishing matches, which when we're drawing 0-0 against the spammers I really can't understand. He's praised harry so many times, and says he's loving life in london and playing for tottenham has helped him re-discover his love for the game.
