Just because the was a great player doesn't mean he should be made a club  ambassodor or what ever...if thats the case, you could make a point for all other players we had at the club who didnt quiet make it through injuries or other things.

He is a club captain and he has come through the Spurs academy and that is what makes him a very special person for this club. Not to mention that many of our ex-players have some sort of jobs related to Spurs... Be it an after dinner speaker etc.

not as rawly talented football-wise as Anthony Gardner: who was never given his due at Spurs, but still a great CB for the Prem... a John Terry with pace and talent.

Gardner too was blighted by injury and could have developed at 1 stage early on into a world-class CB.... King was almost that good but relied more on hard work to get to his high level.... I dont think he will play beyond this season now... and probably not even this season anymore...

enjoy the rehab after the operation... the fleshpots and drinking-joints of London-town await your generous patronage

Thats more like it....club ambassodor, never in a million years...as Keown has quiet rightly pointed out...falling out of night clubs/bars - club ambassodor - never.

Exactly he is a wee bit different to most talented ex players that why Club Ambassodor popped into my head there are of course as pointed out many roles he could fulfil for us if the club want him and TBH why wouldnt they!

THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

Start him out coaching the kids then see how it goes. Maybe in about 10 years time he will be Manager. I get the feeling Ledley may not handle retirement very well. From the pics we have all seen I worry that without something to occupy him he may turn into something of a party animal. It would be good if the club could offer him a coaching role of some nature.

alas the end of the line has unfortunately come for the king of centre halves a truly superb defender and footballer and quite rightly should retire immediately as he has the rest of his life to live and he without doubt is a living hall of famer and we could use his experience of defending via a coaching role in the future years .what a player what a man one of the all time greats of THFC is rightfully assured . :tickedoff:

as good a CB as Ledley is he is the last man in the current squad I would ever class as management material... he is very introverted, inarticulate and I dont think that very bright either...

the thing I remember most when summing up Ledley is the time when Woodgate was bossing him about at a setpiece... I think Woodgate was telling him to do something underhand eg. blocking someone at a setpiece, which he hadnt done... then 5mins later the same situation arose and I looked for Woody to see if he would get Ledley to do the same... Woody pointed and gave him the look.... King acquiesed and 10 seconds later got booked for blocking the opponent blatantly as he went to head the ball...

that summed King up for me, easily led with not a strong personality.... and his numerous nightclub outings when he's pictured near-paralytic and carried outta clubs is hardly gonna engender respect from future players he concievably manages... in Arry's words :-

its a no-goer.

while i would agree that he is introverted and inarticulate in interviews I would not necessarily fall into the trap of labeling him as unintelligent based on this evidence alone. Ever heard of shyness?? as they say empty vessels make the most noise, He is however the closest thing we have had to a leader on the pitch for a long time (maybe vdv is in a similar vein) I resent the derision with which you dismiss one of the stalwarts of this club. He will always remain  one of the best defenders to play for the club and go down as a spurs legend.
Ledley i wish you well as do all spurs FANS ;)

I actually do agree with every word you wrote there.... I was indeed drawing an inference on his intelligence from limited observation.... but my instincys do point to him not being very wise and perhaps easily led.... and his repeated forays into the London nightlife scene dont paint him in a very good light that would even mildly indicate good judgement, self-control and an awareness of cause-and-effect..

just cos he's quiet doesnt mean he's not a simple lout at heart.... maybe a lesser-spotted quiet-lout  :ohyeah:

How many times have you fallen out of a night club????

Compare that to the number of times hes been photographed doing it?????

3-4 if that many???

Footballers live in goldfish bowls so lets judge them by their performances.
I never suggested he be put forward for management i said he deserves some sort of role at the club.
Keown i feel you are trying to portray him as a helpless drunk which i doubt he is. It takes courage and bravery to keep trying despite all the set back he has had in his promising but unfulfilled career.

I dont think courage and bravery comes too much into wanting to sustain a career that pays him 60k a week for as long as hes fit enough to do so..

I dont make the accusation lightly... but theres seems to be a pattern thats emerged of someone who likes his alcohol, being the 'leader' of a sycophantic group of hangers-on who pimp off him to get the gangsta-lifestyle they all crave with  the respek, poonani and glamourous venues that go with it..

I think he has tried to use his 'celeb' status and relatively huge income abit too much to bully/cajole and downright threaten his way into clubs, hotels and female company...

definately not 'Officer material"

How do you know so much Keown and tell us how you expect us to believe such seemingly informed assumptions?
