Pav in contract talks.

Roman Pavlyuchenko's agent claims the striker is in talks over signing a new contract at Tottenham.

Oleg Artemov believes the North London outfit are ready to tie down the Russian international to a new contract.

Pavlyuchenko looked certain to leave White Hart Lane less than a year ago when he came close to signing for Premier League rivals Birmingham.

However, the 29-year-old has since played a key role in securing Champions League football for the club.

Despite not being a regular in Harry Redknapp's side this season, the player has still scored eight goals in 21 appearances.
Negotiations

Artemov told Russian newspaper Sovetskiy Sport: "Redknapp wouldn't sell Pavlyuchenko now.

"The same can be said of the chairman (Daniel) Levy.

"Three months ago, Levy suggested Roman sign a new contract on improved terms. We are in negotiations and discussing the details."

Artemov also revealed Redknapp is ready to offload stikers Robbie Keane and Peter Crouch adding: "Keane will most likely be sold and maybe Crouch.

"Roman isn't even considering the option of returning to Russia any more.

"He has changed greatly over two-and-a-half years in London and has a different perspective.

"If we extend the contract with Tottenham, Roman will probably never play again in the Russian championship."

In other news, Michael Dawson played his first match for more than three months after recovering from knee and ankle ligament damage.

The defender marked his comeback with a goal as a Tottenham XI beat MK Dons 4-3 in a friendly at Spurs Lodge.

Good or bad thing?

I personally wouldn't be that sad, if pav left. I feel we could use his fee to go towards another striker

extending/renewing contracts dont always mean the player's gonna stay.... it just means mainly that we dont get 'Bosmanned' outta a transfer-fee....

Pav is low-maintenance nowadays.... 40k a week, no add. transfer-fee, take him out to the zoo occasionally, and he's happy....

also, he could be a good translator  for any Russkies coming soon....

I say let him leave if he wants to leave and let him stay if he wants to stay. He's obviously not going to be starting every game, but if he's alright with that he's a good option to have.

Despite his goals I don't rate Pavlyuchenko. He is too lazy, Bebastard was lazy as well but that was somehow different.

LOL from the interviews I've seen with him on Spurs tv he doesn't speak a great deal of English. I like Pav he pops up with a decent goal ratio and plays with a smile on his face. Sure he can look lazy but then springs to life and gets us a goal just when we need it most. Good impact player and stops us from just pumping long balls fwd as we seem to resort to when playing Crouch.

I think he is miles ahead of crouch and just needs a prolonged run in the side to gel with another strike partner.

lol Taime.... didnt know 'Hutch' had given any sort of interviews in English since he arrived.... love to see it sometime..

true, he does look lazy but thats deceptive.... my only real gripe is that the ball doesnt stick to him alot and he loses it too easily.... usually by nearly always going for the most difficult option.... great when it comes off but too infrequent...

his movements actually quite good this year methinks.... he just needs to be the main striker with another playing in the channels around him... not sure Defoe likes to do that as he likes being the main striker too..

If he wants to stay I say lets sign him up, but he needs to stay not for the £'s but because he is happy at THFC, being a squad player, contributing when required and playing his part in our ongoing development .

He has the ability and natural skill, brings more to the team than Crouch does and is a 10x better finisher.

Pav will never bring more to a team than Crouch does.... if not for Crouch where would the CL campaign be, how would vdV have scored most of his goals, would we have beaten Al Citeh last April ??.... also he's the better partner upfront for any of the remaining strikers (incl vdV) currently..

but Pav is the better more instinctive (selfish) goalgetter.... he certainly has enough shots for 1-2 to go in now and then..

therein lies the rub.....

That's right - the fact that Crouch hasn't scored much lately is mainly due to him playing a bit different role these days. He has provided quite a few assists this season, actually.

But Crouchie is a striker and there to get the goals, we are way to predictable when we play him.

I am certain if Pav gets a run in the team we will see on a consistant basis the quality he has shwon us in the past.  Thats if he wants to stay of course!
