Bassong very underated- your view!
« on: November 09, 2010, 04:06:16 PM »
I cant understand how this guy seems to be the scapegoat for every bad loss, last year he was incredible yet Dawson got all the plaudits, he along with a few others struggled to perform on the plastic pitch at the home of Yound Boys so was dropped for 4-5 games, and then Inter Milan the whole defence struggled and again he hasnt played since and Redknapp proceeds to persist with the underperforming William Gallas.

We start up debates over players like Keane, Niko, Crouch, Jenas etc when they do/dont get selected but Sebastian seems to get very limited support. Which I cant understand, Kaboul is the master in the air, Dawson gives his heart and is vocally the best, King reads the game better than our other centre backs, and Gallas has the experience, but I feel Bassong is the fastest, pops up with goals, reads the game well, is good in the air, he only lacks experience but what more experience does he need when he has just been on the back end of our most successful premiership season ever and for the majority our main centre back.

Im intrigued to find out what the majority of spurs fans think of him?

i agree, he gets blamed for many of the defeats but he just needs a run in the team, hes class but i think he needs to play all the time, a bit like daws when he first came to the lane with ledley by his side he was helped along and grew in confidence, bassong needs the same.

Yep, I personally think Dawson started this season quite bad, he was equally poor against young boys and then didnt look great for England, they will all make mistakes but Arry seems alot more harsh on some i.e

Giovanni, Bentley, Krancjar, Pavlyuchenko, Cudicini, Palacios.

Some deserved but others not

I thought he was great last season, I really felt that the pairing of Dawson and Bassong was our future spine of the back line

All players make errors and have dips in form, Bassong has the class and all round ability but deserves and should be playing regular.  Gallas and Kaboul are a liability I dont really rate either.

I look forward to Dawson coming back, but in the meantime I would rather see a Bassong/Kaboul pairing and only use Gallas if either of the 2 mentioned are knackered and we are 5 goals up with 4 minutes left

Arry does though have his favs as we know and sometimes it doesnt benefit the team!

I think that Gallas was flaky the first few games, but he was really out of shape. Against Sunderland I thought that Gallas and Kaboul did well together. Unfortunately the one mistake they made (that I can remember) led to a goal. I think Gallas is a good defender, he just started poorly because we had to play him when he wasn't fit.

Bassong started off so very well for us with the goal against Liverpool and looked solid defensively. I honestly don't know what has happened to drop him down the pecking order. I think that until Dawson is fit (or King can play) it should be Gallas and Bassong or Gallas and Kaboul.

Dont rate any of them..Gallas..Bassong and Kaboul that is...Gallas is clearly past it...the other two are liabilities....your always waiting on them to make a mistake..lets be honest about it..there squad players at best..we are leaking goals because of them..if King and Dawson were fit..do you really think we would have conceded as many goals as we have?..Redknapp has to hold his hand up and admit he made a mistake not buying a decent centre half at the start of the season...it was pretty obvious we needed a decent centre half to play along side Dawson..but Redknapp failed to see that.

Bassong and Kaboul are young players..they will improve..but can we really afford to stick by them waiting on them to improve?..if we do..we could be miles behind in the league playing catch-up..the sooner Dawson is fit the better.

Our defence(centre backs just) is really letting the midfield and strikers down(midfield and strikers are doing great)...they are not strong enough..said 3 players wouldn't get into any of the tops teams in the leagues defence at the minute..Wenger knew that Gallas days were numbered..but Harry failed to see that ..a decent centre half has to be the priority in January!

I agree with what you are saying Derry but as i have mentioned before there is no money unless we ship a few players out. What worries me is we tried desperatly to get rid of a few at discount prices in summer i just dont see how we will ship them on in January.

Today's figures are a more accurate reflection on our running costs, stripping out player purchase/sales we make a small profit. certainly not enough to keep spending 10-15mill on a player and then picking up large wages on top of that.

I would love for us to get rid of 2-3 fringe players in exchange for one more top class player. We have a squad big enough to cope with losing a few as we have a lot of good but not great players.

I dont think we are short of a few pound MT...the money was there for  Harry to spend..the £8 million we spent on vdv proves that there was  money available for him to spent...Harry wouldn't have spent anything at all, if Levy hadn't of phoned him up about signing vdv..so there was money there for him to spend weather we needed to move players on or  not.

Derry the fact that the figures yesterday showed we made a pre-tax loss last year is starting to show the true extent of our finances.

We have made profit in recent years mainly boosted by player sales helping to fund new players. Because we haven't been shipping anyone out there is a hole that will be filled this year with CL revenue. But they wont commit long term with that cash because there is no guarantee we will succeed in qualifing again any time soon. So signing top players on 3 yr deals at CL salaries might not happen.

The club had approx £60mill of servicable debt and like everyone else in this changed days of finance we will be trying to downpay this as much as possible. At current levels paying interest etc isnt a problem.

Taking into account our positioning regarding borrowing for the new stadium cash flows and turnover and profits are all going to be important.

I would say we are running at maximum budget right now, of course we can spend more if we wish buti think Levy is doing the right thing in trying not to cripple us long term.

Hopefully, with all clubs ( apart from Man City ) feeling the pinch at the moment, transfer fees will be more realistic in future. But football doesn't conform to accepted financial practice so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Seb's a decent centre half that needs games. I'd say he is probably a bit underated by Harry more than anything.

He's still young so with regular games he has every chance to be a good defender.

He's struggled with injuries this season, that hasn't helped his development.
