Hoddle or Gazza

I thought i'd start a debate, now i suppose this is for fans who have seen both Gazza and Hoddle play but anyone can join in. Who do you think was the better playmaker glenn hoddle or paul gascoigne? Hoddle had the flair, the free-kicks, and when in the mood could dominate a game, but there were times when he would just watch the game go by him especially if he was man marked, he could be just as bad if he wasn't in the mood as he was brilliant when he was in the mood, who could forget his goals against forest and man u in the late 70's and in the quarter-final replay against man u at old trafford were he was brilliant in goal and we won the game thanks to an ardilles goal Also of course his goal at wembley in 81 which took the game to a replay (yes i know it came of a city player!!). Gazza also had the flair and the free-kicks Who can ever forget his free-kick against Ars*nal in 91, but with Gazza I feel if he wasn't having a good game he wouldn't hide like hoddle he would go look for the ball and i feel he had the strenght to look after himself. Hoddle could sometimes be knocked of the ball but Gazza had the body strength to keep the ball when opponents were being slighty less than fair in trying to get the ball of him and he could win the ball by using his strength. Anyway i just thought i'd get this debate started and see what happens, lets hope for a good win on Thursday. UP THE SPURS!!!!.

I am too young too see either of them play, and I was gutted when Gazza pulled out of the England vs Germany Legends match at Reading's Madjeski Stadium last year because I just wanted too see him on the pitch and have a go.

I've got the centeary video from the early nighties, the mos up too date goal on it was Sheringham looking about 21 scoring against newcastle haha, but Hoddle's play on it [however biased because of what the video was showing] was absolutely genius.

Me personally because of Hoddle's loyalty too the club, its him because he just had that gift too pull something out of nothing.

Gazza was a genius but also a liability, you never knew what was coming next with him, look at the 91 FA Cup final, he got us there and made that horrendous tackle within 5 minutes [can't remember the other lads name] and ****ed himself up a treat.

My Top 5 Spurs players ever:

1. Teddy Sheringham [my hero when I was younger]
2. Glen Hoddle
3. Gary Linaker
4. Martin Chivers
5. Paul Gascoinge

To conclude, Hoddle over Gazza, but still rate Gazza mega highly and will always love him for the greatest free kick the world has ever seen.

I was too young to see Hoddle and only really saw Gazza towards the end of his career.

From what I have seen and know Hoddle was just awesome, picking out passes, his control of play etc etc. I think his spell as manager has slightly tarnished his legacy at Spurs but for me Hoddle is a legend. Unlike Gazza he didn't fade as his career went on and he was more of a professional so Hoddle for me.

I am the same as SL and I only saw Gascoigne towards the end of his footballing career, so I honestly don't know who was the better playmaker.

I can barely remember what Paul even played like!

This is tough, both amazing. My Dad always tells me how good Hoddle was, a magician like no other. But I never got to see him play so I cant really judge on him myself. Gazza for me is Englands most talented central midfielder ever, the goal against Scotland in Euro 96 sums him up.

So I'll sit on the fence with this one and say they were both amazing playmakers in their own right.

Gazza was a very good player but not in the same class as Glenn Hoddle IMO

Berbs hasn't even been here a season yet, and 4 out 5 of those players have won a trophy at the club and at stayed for at least 2 years so however good Berbs is, he still has some distance to go for me too break in that list.

Give it time, let Jol work his magic and soon we'll be showing people what a real Wembley final is all about.

now i am not being argumentative but what about waddle.in his last season at the lane he was one of if the best player about .and is still my hero.looked so lazy but could destroy defenders what might have been if we had kept him when lineker signed we would of stood a chance of the title.the man is a god and should be treated as one as for your case gazza was better he could win games on his own as in the 91 cup run got us to wembley almost on his own .but then went mental in the final and that was the end of gazza.but i can happily say we had the best of him

Its a tough one. Gazza was so exciting, but hoddle just oosed class and gave us many more years of service, for that reason I would plump for hoddle
