What age player would you immediately say ........... your avin a larf, I want a player who drinks through a straw not eats through one ffs.

 Not even entertaining the phone call...........34?, 35?, 36?


here are a few previous more experienced players off the top of my head.

Sheringham was 35, Davids was 32, Ginola 30-31, Klinsmann 33 on his second visit

As a side dish ....do you think we are now beyond such signings as above. Or would you be happy about signing a 31-35 year old now?

It really depends on a player. Player over 32 is at best a solution for a season or two, then age will probably get to his bones. Drogba is 32 and will probably be a good player for quite a few seasons more. Sheringham was also a notable exeption because despite not playing week in week out during his last seasons (when he was over forty) he still managed to score goals and change games but as we know, Sheringham was not a very typical striker, his skill came from his footballing brain not ageing legs. He was never quick, though...

I guess it depends on the price and wages. If you can get a couple of good seasons out of a player in his 30's then why not take them if he's good value. The real issue is sell on fees spending a fortune on a guy you will never be able to move on is a recipe for financial disaster thats why every body wants the up coming 20 somethings let them establish themselves in The Prem then sell them to Man Utd for £30 million seems to be the plan at most clubs

For me, it would depend not only on the player but also on the team that they would be playing in. All great teams have a spine of experienced players, and thank God that Wenger hasn't realised that fact and still hopes to win the prem with a bunch of 18 year olds.

Buying older players can also be a good shorter-term tactical move. I'd put Gallas in that category. I doubt we'd have been interested in him if the Woodgate-King-Dawson trio had been fit.

Dont think levy is keane on spending on elder players due to their low sell on value. Of course if its a free transfer and we are desperate like with gallas.
