Oh Wilson you have made me such a happy man but very jelous at the same time!

Some awesome pictures there mate - thanks!

Gutted my Bucs didn't make the playoffs in the end, Im still proud of the turnaround from a 3-13 team to a 10-6 team and onto the cusp of the playoffs - maybe next year!

No problem. Happy to do it! I didn't realize the video was set to private. I've fixed that now for anyone interested in viewing.

can someone enlighten lil ole me as to why a game where, 90%+ of the time, the ball is either carried or thrown using one's hands ....... is called FOOTball.... american or otherwise ??

talk about not knowing your arse from your elbow ??

I'm just off for an american jog now... which I will do by standing perfectly still making no motions whatsoever.. :D

Actually, I CAN answer that. Football is a collective term for all forms of sport played "on foot" (by the working class) as opposed to "on horseback" (by the upper class). There are many types of football all around the world including association football (soccer -- the word coined by the English), rugby football, Australian rules football, and gridiron football (American). In America, there is no need to qualify gridiron football since it is the predominant sport and the word "soccer" is available -- just as the English do not qualify association football versus rugby football. They are simply football and rugby.

Football -- played "on" foot / not "with" the feet.

You were saying something about not knowing your ass from your elbow...

Willsy.... its good to know that in a nation built on the presumption of equality and freedom.... enslavement of African-origin people notwithstanding.... that a concept such categorising a sport to actively sanction 'on foot'  ( ie. for the working-class as opposed to their 'social-superiors' ) would ever come to pass...

right back atcha, ole sport...

So now you're suggesting that Americans also created the word "football"? I think anyone can see that is a pretty ridiculous assertion. You should rethink this entire debate that you're stirring up.

Putting your personal politics and biases aside, the etymology of the word arose from medieval Europe.

You act as if you are the social champion of this network when you are clearly a bigot on a number of levels. Putting a happy face and a thumbs-up at the end of each one of your attacks doesn't make it ok.

Willsy... I can now clearly see that youve won the argument here on more than the singular level....

who says I can't be gracious in defeat, and admit when I am wrong ??

xx  :hide:

or....

just wait a cotton-pickin minute..... who says the good ole US of A had to go with the name 'football' ??..... you were quick enough to change the name of rounders to 'baseball' after all

Is there a reason why the attention seeker was posting on this thread or was he just feeling that it wasnt all about him?

Cant believe the Jets produced another performance to stay in this, not so sure they will go much further but you never know. Their defence is amazing at gatting at the QB, i sometimes struggle to see the numbers allowed and do they leave themselves exposed pushing so many men through to the QB?

Anyway how are we calling it now? Do we jump on the Packers bandwagon and say they have it in them?

Yup I'm on the Packers bandwagon - although a good friend of mine is a Steeler fan, so I wouldn't mind them being booted out mahahaha

The only team left that I don't dislike is the Packers. Got nothin' against Green Bay. My brother-in-law has a man-crush on Aaron Rodgers so we'll all be pulling for the Pack as well. Pittsburgh are hated AFC rivals and I definitely do not want to see them win a SEVENTH championship. Don't wanna have to deal with Steeler Nation if they win again. Don't like the Jets either, but I see them as the lesser of two evils. They're entertaining at least.
