Being Realistic

Here we all are sitting waiting for the new season that's only 3 weeks away, holding our breath waiting on any signing or indication of how we will do in the coming months.
 
What I want to know is what would you consider to be a good season next May, myself personally I would consider a 1 or 2 place improvement in the League and making it out of the group stages of the Champions League a fantastic season. As for the Cups I think they will have to be the domain of the fringe players this year so I fear we may not do so well unless our Champions League journey is cut short, I think this season is going to be all about consolidation and growing.

I would say a good CL run whereby we qualify from the group stage but that will not be easy, i wouldn't be suprised if we found ourselves once again in the Europa League early 2011, but thats not to say we won't qualify out the group stage - depends if we get into that stage and who we will be drawn against.
 
The cups, i think should be used as game time for the more fringe players and injury recoveries. We seem to have done well over the last 3 years in the cups so maybe another final berth? go one further?? I would be too disopointed if we fail early in the cups as the League and CL are far more important to the club.
 
So, now to the League. Ithink to break the top 4 will be even more difficult now as City has strenghtened no end and we haven't (as of yet, bar Sandro) But, that aside i still feel a realistic League position would be 4th again. The lads know what it takes to get into the top 4 now so with that valuable knowledge i think 3rd could well be a possibility actually. We dropped a hell of a lot of points which were very much avoidable. Notably the 2-2 draw at Everton, the 0-0's with Stoke and Villa and the TWO 0-1 defeats to Wolves. Add those points on to our final tally from last season and im pretty sure we would have had 3rd.
 
Now obviously football doesn't work like that whereby we win when we should etc but to be realistic i'd definatly say come next may can see us in the top 4 for sure.

I think most would consider another Top 4 finish (possibly 3rd) and progression into the CL knockout stage a complete success - and totally achievable.

Failure would be finishing outside the Top 4 and not qualifying for the CL group stage.

If they win the FA, finish Top 3, or advance to the CL quarterfinals - I would be over the moon.

personally i think... there is many options for us which i would say we had a good season.

 a few new face and a good run in the CL would be a good season in my eye or winning a cup or 4th again... any of them i would be happy

Suarez is definatly leaving Ajax they have just signed 2 new strikers. One of them, believe it or not, being Mido. They need the cash, so we should make them a decent offer and see what happens. Harry seems reluctant to spend though, I saw an interview where he kept talking about loans and free transfers. For Gods sake this is Tottenham we always spend far to much in the transfer window and get nowhere, at last we are in the Champions League Get the bloody purse out now is not the time to be frugal.

Fully agreed, looking at "experienced players" all under 10m transfer fee, or loans, Parker, Bellamy are players you would expect bottom half clubs looking for, not a team with every chance of qualifying for champions league group stages.
Ozil available around 12m bargain really, he is at least 20m player, but his contract is up in a year so 12m is a decent return.


Suarez also available but for around 25m, pity we can't send a couple the other way, Jol's first pick would be Bale, but 'hands off' maybe if we could let BAE go? decent player, would keep him but in this instance would be worth it, his tackling is a bit of a liability. BAE

Jol has gone for 2 ex-Spurs old(?) boys in Mido and Mounir El-Hamdoui (remember him from the Peace Cup 5yrs ago ?) who has been a great goalscorer at AZ Alkmaar recently.

Mido gets alot of stick from Spurs supporters who soon have forgotten what a great player he was for us in the year of Lasagnegate. the word 'ungrateful' springs to mind.

Suarez would be a great addition and would gel well with either Pav, Crouch or even Keane - not sure Defoe could play with him as too similar.

Dom - regarding BAE tackling ability I don't believe that's a fair assessment. He was 6th in the league in tackles in only 30 games and number ONE in passes intercepted.

I just wanna say i am more than happy that tottenham is still tottenham. Yeah i want them to do fantastic next season my god it would be hell if we were one of those teams that actually went into administration. We should be happy that spurs is still around. Paul (my boyfriend) keeps saying we could be the next team well he does have a point. I think we will do ok in the cup games but not awesome, maybe finnish 4th or 3rd and to be quite honest might find it a bit of a struggle to get through the champions league qualifying stages, but might just might scrape through them.

No he supports Sheffield Wednesday, also he keeps saying Harry will put us in too much debt.
In the first year he spent £70 million, there is a case coming up on him for the FA to the value of £9 million.

Wilson jet BAE is a good squad player and compliments Bale well when Bale is LM, yes most of the time he is a good tackler and he was much improved last season, he gets stuck in and makes tackles I just believe he is sometimes prone to clumsy challenges, giving away penalties, he didn't get any red cards last season I think they had a word to him.


The reason I proposed BAE go the other way for Suarez, as Jol would wan't a good player in return, and he is about the only good squad player I could bare leaving but only if Suarez, Mesut Ozil, or a top class striker was coming in, otherwise I wouldn't want him to go. In a perfect world we could offer Jenas, or Keane to go the other way, but I just think BAE would be much more of a bigger carrot for Ajax.
