I also think our demise can be traced back to Burkinshaws days. He assembled probably one of the best teams in our history. The purchase of Ardilles and Villa straight from being World Cup winners was a big statement.
Moving on, he resigned over the emergence of player power, and from then on we became a club that seemed to sell our star players, Hoddle, Gazza, Sheringham, Berba, Modric, and some more.
These days, apart from the top 3, we all feed off the scraps, so is it any wonder we can't make a sustained effort at the title.
All we can really hope for is to battle it out with Ars*nal for 4th place.

I don't think it is as simple as that; even though you have made some good points. I believe Spurs have the resources and facilities to be one of the top 4 teams in this country. Where we have failed is in purchasing the right manager. Get that right and we will be on our way. Ars*nal, United and others have struggled but by putting in the right manager their fortunes changed.

What a short memory you have! We have just lost one league game against a fiesty Wigan! As a long life Spurs supporter, this is part an parcel of any season. Standard stuff!!

You all seem to have already forgotten the "Harry 13 game nosedive" at the end of last season that cost us 3rd place! I don't know why some of you don't apply for AVB's job, as you seem to be really clued up on your football formations and tactics?  I rekon Levy would welcome you with open arms and sack AVB immediately!

Call yourselves Spurs supporters? 

First of all it wasn't 13 games. Secondly, why do you chose to remember a 6 week period rather than the 4 years we were great. Until Arry was at the club we were mid table at very best. He took us to the highest positions we had ever been and the quarter final of the CL. We are now playing dreadful football, and even when we win we are hanging on by our finger nails to get the result. If you attended the games and spoke to people at the Lane, you would soon find out that the vast majority of supporters didn't want AVB, and non of them have been convinced by him as yet. Believe me, by showing support for this moron will only make you look stupid when he is sacked in the next few months.

But if he isn't sacked and does well (to your horror) what would it make you look like?

 I have said from day one, that I hope I am wrong and am left with egg on my face. The people that are pro AVB have dug a hole for themselves, as they have openly said that they believe his better than Arry. I respect the people that have said they have their reservations but will give him a go, but don't respect the people that honestly believe he is a better manager than Arry, when his only previous experience in the prem was a complete flop. Just watch the football the team are playing (even when we scrape a win) and try and convince yourself that this is a team that are motivated and know what they are meant to be doing. AVB is to young and far to inexperienced to have been given such a massive job. Managing the only good side in a pub league (Portugal) was of no help at all to him at all.

I don't think I said that he is better than Harry. However, we all want the next manager to be better and also achieve more than Managers like Bill Nicholson.

Only time will tell if he is better than Harry or anybody else.

On another post I put Pep Guardiola's name forward for the next Manager.
So if he was at the helm would his magic wand mean we will win all matches
go on and qualify for C/L and then pick up that trophy.


I think not on all counts, but would love to see it happen.......dreaming.


So what does this show.....it isn't only the Manager but the team that are
accountable for our results.
Bad decisions by the Manager can affect the team's quality but at the end
of the day if the guys don't perform we will be lucky to win matches.


I think the season reflects this.
A few injuries, the team not playing as well as they could and we lie 6th.

One of the reasons I make these points is that when Burkinshaw wanted Ardilles and Villa he got them, which enabled him to play the style of football that he wanted to. Before him, the same applied to Nicholson.
AVB wanted Willian/Moutinho/Fernandinho and he got Dempsey/Siggurdsson/Huddlestone, plus an injured Dembele. Is it any wonder that we are unable to play the way he wants ??

Spot on Riff. Without 3 or 4 more world class players to go with Lloris, Verthonghen, and Bale he would struggle to do any better.

To be fair there there wasn't many teams in for Ardilles and Villa only got a look in because of Ardilles.

You can't compare the past with new; different times and they a lot harder.
