34 is too old in my opinion for what we are looking for.

Getting Coupet would just be a short term solution as he would only be 1st choice for a couple years or so, if we are being serious about finding keeper to replace Robbo as no.1 we've got to be looking for younger experienced guys who we can develop and keep for years to come. I know theres not too many around but i'm sure if we're patient we will buy the right keeper.

I don't know, I don't think 34 is too bad for a keeper - look at James, Van der Sar, even Lehmann... or the likes of Friedel, or going further back, your Schmeichels and Seamans etc. All top class at the top level until at least aged 37...

If they're good enough, they're young enough, to paraphrase whoever it was...

I'm not saying 34 is too old for a keeper to still be good enough, i'm sayin i think 34 is too old for what we are looking for. Obviously Robbo is going to be replaced as no.1 and i think we should be looking for someone thats experienced & prooven but still youngish rather than a keeper thats coming towards the end of his career.

Just wouldn't see it as a good move.

DazzaTH - but we do need an experienced keeper to compete with Robbo. If Robbo goes, and I hope he doesn't, then we could do with 2 of them. Don't know enough about Coupet to form an opinion on him but age/experience is what we need I think.

The Sun reckons he has a release clause of £2.5m.... maybe he wants a move, I think Lyon have someone else lined up to replace him too.

Keepers don't really seem to reach their peak until they hit the 30s anyway, so I think this could prove to be a really good move - relatively inexpensive, for France's first choice 'keeper who has 7 successive league titles under his belt plus lots of CL and international experience, and who should still be at the top of his game for the next two or three years.

Combined with a younger, promising keeper (Robbo? Someone else?) to provide competition and learn from him, and with a new GK coach, we'd be looking a lot better in that department.

So true, i doubt robbo would leave.

We cant just simply sell 2 keepers and buy new ones. Im sure this guy is there to get Robbo's old form and compete for the no.1 place.

SSN reporting Spurs are closing in on a deal for £11m. A bit more reliable than the Daily Mail usually are.

Can't allow myself to believe this one, surely that would be too good to be true? Hasn't everyone been after him for a couple of years?

Dunne to spurs ??

Manchester City defender Richard Dunne is set to undergo a medical with Tottenham.

The Daily Mail says City's defender has chosen to link up with this season's Carling Cup winners ahead of similar overtures from Aston Villa and Sunderland.

Dunne, 28, has already held advanced talks with Tottenham officials and will move to White Hart Lane once he has passed a medical.

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has ear-marked the Republic of Ireland star to add steel to his back-line and form a partnership with Jonathan Woodgate.

i would like the idea of sign Richard Dunne , his a powerfull defender , and with a partnership like Woodgate  ,will be a quality defense

From the Guardian website - seems to suggest dos Santos is a Dunne deal (sorry couldn't resist...)

Quote
Tottenham Hotspur have moved towards clinching a £5m deal for the Manchester City central defender Richard Dunne and signing Giovani dos Santos from Barcelona as they strengthen their squad for an assault on the top four places in the Premier League next season.

Dunne flew into London with the Republic of Ireland squad yesterday, played in the friendly against Colombia at Craven Cottage last night and is expected to have further talks with Spurs today.

Juande Ramos, the manager, has been unconvinced by Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul, his young central defenders, and the concerns over Ledley King's fitness are well documented. Ramos signed Jonathan Woodgate for £8m from Middlesbrough in January but wants a tough and experienced partner for him and Dunne fits the profile.

The arrival of the attacking midfielder Dos Santos appears imminent after Tottenham negotiators yesterday shook hands on a deal with Barcelona which will bring the Mexican Under-17 World Cup winner to White Hart Lane for a fee of about £12.5m.

Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, is determined to break the Big Four monopoly and qualify for the Champions League and he has been told by Ramos that he must speculate on players to accumulate. Levy appears to be heeding the Spaniard's advice to ignore making profits in the short term, having already completed the signing of Luka Modric from Dinamo Zagreb for £16.5m.

Personal terms for a four-year contract have been agreed for the 19-year-old Giovani, who counts Ronaldinho and Zinedine Zidane among his fans. He has been swayed in his decision to join Spurs despite interest from Internazionale, Chelsea and Manchester City because of Ramos's faith in him.

Giovani has been widely monitored since he orchestrated Mexico's Under-17 World Cup victory three years ago but the Spurs manager's personal experience of the player proved the key. The then 18-year-old handed victory to Barça against Ramos's Sevilla a month before the coach took over at Spurs, turning the tide of the match and winning a vital penalty.

I like the sound of Levy being persuaded to speculate to accumulate, and they seem to be going after some impressive targets.
