A few more rumours

Quote
RIGHT-BACK? REALLY?
For some reason, and ignoring the glaring deficiencies elsewhere in their squad, Spurs seem dead set on buying themselves a right-back this January.

The Times claims that they are about to resurrect their bid for Alan Hutton, despite the Rangers full-back turning down a move to White Hart Lane last week.

Also, the paper of record reckons Tottenham have joined Chelski in tracking Gianluca Zambrotta, who can't currently get a game at Barcelona.

Can The Gossip Column be so bold as to suggest a centre-half or two, a creative midfielder or a winger might be a better use of your scouting time Juande?

MORE LIKE IT
Ah - here we go.

The Sun reckons that far from going for a superfluous right-back, Magic Juande is indeed set on addressing a part of his team that actually needs, well, addressing.

They claim that Spurs are about to bid £8million for Chelski defender Tal Ben Haim, in a story that contains the biggest understatement of the season so far:

'Younes Kaboul has failed to impress since his summer move from Auxerre.'

No s**t boys. Anyway, this seems like cracking business for Chelski - £8million for a fourth-choice centre-back that they paid not a bean for in the summer. That's known in footballing circles as the Jean-Alain Boumsong Manoeuvre.

£8m looks steep for Ben Haim, but then I suppose we've got plenty of money, and not much in the way of centre halves...

As for Giovani dos Santos, I can't see that happening in a million years. Unfortunately.
There's more to life than the bloody Champions League

I can't see Ben Haim in the Spurs squad and I think they can do better than Ben Haim to be honest...

Lyon have told striker Fred that he can choose which club he wants to sign for after accepting three offers for the Brazilian.

Jean-Michel Aulas, Lyon president, has confirmed that the French champions have received bids for Fred from Portsmouth, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.

Portsmouth, who have struggled to score at home this season, are said to have made a 12million euros (£9m) bid, while Tottenham have offered 15m euros (£11m).

PSG have made a 10m euros (£7.5m) approach for the forward as they look to rescue their disappointing season.

And Aulas has stated that Fred now has the option to decide which club he will move to.

"We have accepted these offers," said Aulas. "It's up to Fred to decide."

I've seen him play and tbh it didn't look anything special. And WTF ARE WE SPENDING £11 MILLION ON A STRIKER WHEN WE HAVE 4 TOP-CLASS 1s ALREADY?!

And why didn't we just bid £9 million like Portsmouth?!!!!!!

He does play for Lyon though, so he does play in the Champions League.

And having looked at his profile on wikipedia, is goals to appearances looks really impressive. He's 6ft 1, so must be good in the air. Is this Bent's replacement?!

I'll tell you who to get. Ricardo Quaresma, he plays for Porto and is only 23. I know this isn't a rumour, it's just a suggestion, but he would definitely make us a feared team on the wings. I reckon Porto might want 10 mil for him though....

We've been interested before.

And he's said he doesn't want to come to us  Probably because we don't play CL football.....

Makes sense to spend that on a dangerous winger. Better than that of what was spent on a striker we didn't really need. I hate when these players don't want to come because of CL football, or lack thereof at WHL. But if he would come on board, then we could quickly get to the CL as a team. Everyone in football wants things too quickly!..not even - they want it NOW!!!! Stupid!!!

Spurs Want Bayern Defender
« Reply #176 on: January 13, 2008, 12:46:56 PM »
A number of Premier League clubs are interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Daniel van Buyten, according to the player's agent.

The Belgian international has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Bayern starting XI this season, and has been linked with a move to Celtic.

And Daniel Van Buyten's agent has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry about the Bayern Munich defender.

The 29-year-old has found himself out of favour at the German giants this season and is unhappy at his lack of first-team football.

"Every English club outside the big four that needs a central defender has shown an interest in Daniel," His agent Christophe Henrotay said in the Daily Star Sunday.

"Sunderland, Everton, Wigan, Tottenham and Fulham have all contacted me about him."

Van Buyten added: "I am unhappy with my current situation."

could maybe take him on a loan
but i dont see him as a good long term recruit
we still need to build up our  young players like kaboul and dawson
and after yesterdays game
king is still  the king of whl
dawson and king  to start with kaboul as cover unless we play 3 at back
then kaboul  starts imo

Shay Given!!!
« Reply #178 on: January 13, 2008, 03:13:26 PM »
He is arguably one of the best keepers in the Premiership.

Newcastle are doing poorly and he surely knows that he could be at abetter club although probably not the top 4... I think he was unhappy earlier this season too.

But when I watched the Man Utd yesterday he was their best player by far, Man Utd had like 18 shots on target yet they only scored 6 because Given made so many world class saves.

Ramos eyes Almeria duo

Quote
Juande Ramos' first move into the Spanish transfer market since taking over at Tottenham could see him land Almeria duo Alvaro Negredo and Mane.

Negredo is a highly-rated centre forward, while Mane is a left-back who can also operate in midfield.

The duo have both performed in La Liga this term as Almeria fight admirably to remain in the top-flight...read more>
