Bent is better than Defoe.

He's playing for Charlton and has missed half a season, yet is still the Prem's 4th top scorer.

He's quicker than Defoe.
Taller.
More powerful.
More confident.
Less greedy.
Better at holding up.
Better at heading.
Better influence

Etc, etc, etc.

Being taller doesn't make you a  better player, think about it most of the best players ever lived are relatively small.

I would still say Defoe is better though, but he does lack confidence at times which effects his form hugely.

I would not want Bent in our team. We have got three excellent strikers in Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe and Dimitar Berbatov, I doubt Defoe will leave this season and I personally would not want Bent to be fourth striker in our team. There are other great strikers out there we can sign but not Darren Bent that can just go.

No i know, but by saying he's taller it is positive for us because then he can challenge for balls in the air, and the ball doesn't have to be played to his feet (like Jermain).

And for those saying He would be 4th choice, he wouldn't because we won't sign him unless we sell Jermain. I believe Bent will straight away be ahead of Defoe in the pecking order anyway.

I think that the money could be beter spent in other areas. {Left mid}. Persoanlly I think Bent's a damn good player but I question whether we need him right now especially at the price that he would cost us

I really loved it when Defoe came. He has got tremendous skill and pace but there is a reason Keano gets the nod, he is better works harder and is more of a team player. I still think Defoe can be a better player than Keano but he needs to learn watch Berbatov clips of Klinsmann, owen etc

Bent for the Lane if we get all the other players we need and we can still afford him then yes, if it means we get some one ordinary for left midfied then NO. Left side is our priority.

Totally agree.

Plus, we have to get rid of Mido first before buying another forward :mf_swordfight: ...

Btw, didn't we have some prominent young striker in the reserves?? Lee Bernard or something ? He got invited to the first team last season, but got injured shortly after. May be worth giving him a chance as a cover up (assuming we keep hold of Defo) ! :Lighten: :idea2:

Yeah, Lee barnard. I know his brother

He wasn't really very good at the 1st team level in the few games he played, perhaps Jol should of tried him and Tarbuck (Taarabt) out in the Man City game.

not a big fan of Barny, he isn't premiership quality.

As for Bent if we can get him for about 8 mil that would be good. But we shouldn't spend 12 mil on the fella, left side is the main priority.

Barny isnt ready for the premiership yet though back in the 2005/2006 season he did come on as a sub in our 1-2 defeat at home to Manure.

Bent's name has been mentioned loads of times recently and any deal under £8M may be ok for me. But no way £12M that can just go simple as we have got the strikers but our main priority is to solve our left side.

Defoe and Bent are pretty equal in my book.

Defoe has a slightly more instincive nose for goal but Bent is bigger stronger and better at holding up the ball. Generally he's a better team player whilst still being a potent threat in his own right. I'd imagine he'd be decent alongside Berbs.

I'd certainly like Bent over Mido, and I was a Mido fan, but his temprement will never allow him to make it at Spurs (or elsewhere for my money).

But I do wonder if we are after a 4th Striker whether looking to the kids is a cheaper and more beneficial answer.
