Grays Athletic Vs Spurs Network FC
05.08.06
English conference
Recreation Ground, Grays

Spurs Network FC have certainly made an impression in a recent weeks and today showed their class against Grays. SNFC ripped the home team apart in this 5-0 thrashing. Star German striker alma was on amazing form as she bagged FOUR of the five goals, with American Rob netting the other.

But don't be fooled it wasn't just the SNFC strike force that was on top form today, the defence were immense. Grays only managed one shot on target the whole game and that was a easy save for keeper Storts.

The rampage started as early as the 3rd minute. Biggs got himself to the byline then crossed for alma to head in. The second wasn't too far away, skillful midfielder Lyubokick played a delightful one-two with alma, then backheeled a cheeky pass for Biggs to swing into the box. American Rob was on the end to complete a superb team move.

Just 7 minutes later the game was all but over as again Biggs picked out alma in the box for her to head in. Biggs was finding everything with his crosses.

The debut hat trick was complete on the 31st minute mark, alma smashed home a rebounded shot. She was having an impressive debut. But it was going to get better, just 3 minutes later she headed in a Daniisco cross.

It remained 5-0 has Grays put every man behind the ball in the second half, but SNFC did manage to find the net. But Rob was ruled to be offside.

Quote from: Daniel on the game
What can I say, we were incredible today. Everything just clicked, all we've been working on in training as paid off. Our strikers were untouchable at times, and Biggs was hitting everything with his crosses.

Quote from: On the disallowed goal
At the time It was hard to tell, but seeing the replay now it was the wrong decision. But we scored five goals so I want complain.

TOTAL DECIMATION
Vancouver Sun

The defence was a little less worked that it was in the preseason as Spurs Network FC was ruthless in its 5-0 shellacking of Grays Athletic on their own pitch. Despite a controversial disallowing of a goal and a dazzaTH yellow card, this team was flawless at both ends. German striker alma was clearly the star of this game, potting four goals, including three in a row to end the first half. Had Grays not completely collapsed into their own end in the second half, the scoreline could well have gotten up into the double figures. The other goal came from Rob, who had another goal disallowed in the second half for what was apparently offside, but upon further review, the ref's assistant has admitted that it was the wrong call, albeit a tough one to make at the time.

Another noteworthy performance came from Biggs, who, despite not scoring himself, was in on 3 of SNFC's five goals with his brilliant playmaking and was 34 for 40 (85%) in passing. Furthermore, Daniisco was a passing machine, getting one assist from his game-high 35 completed passes.

The defence was solid as well.
Canadian captain DC76 led the way with successful aerial and ground challenges and the highest passing completion rate of any of the starters (96.7%), missing just one pass out of thirty. Right back Berba's Right Peg showed great poise coming forward, making key passes, intercepting opposition passes, and even getting a shot in on net!

CSA correspondent Dorian Hawkins caught up with a very happy manager after the match.

"
What can I say, we were incredible today. Everything just clicked, all we've been working on in training as paid off. Our strikers were untouchable at times, and Biggs was hitting everything with his crosses. Daniisco was always trying to push the play forward. Our defence was near-impenetrable, and the wing-backs were excellent coming forward. It was all-around brilliance."

The managerial praise didn't stop there. He praised alma thoroughly for the four-goal performance.
