Will We Ever Be A Top Four Team?

Will we ever be able to break into the top four? Are we nearly there or are we miles off? If we are not capable of breaking into the top four yet, surely we should be trying to pull away from those around us. I’m not quite sure myself, even when we were beating Bolton I expected there to be a sting  in the tail. Why are we not capable of killing games off?

I`ve sat and thought about this one many times. We have a good squad full of young, talented players and for the last couple of seasons the level of performance has increased. The club seems to be stable on and off the pitch yet we seem to have a mental block when we come upagainst top four teams. In our games against the top four this season we have started well then fallen away in the secon half.In the away games against liverpool, chelsea and man utd we were drawing or at least still in the game at half time yet still ended up losing.Like every spurs fan i have said that its no disgrace when we lose to these times and i think thats true but if were ever going to be taken seriously we have to go somewhere like old trafford or anfield and get a win.Its not enough to push them hard we`ve got to get the results against them. When or if that happens we can start believing the hype.
If your not spurs you`re dead to me

100% yes. Your were robbed by Ars*nal last season. I believe once King stays fit for whole season and with a few signings, I certainly do believe you are top 4 material. Also I have yet to see a spurs game which is not exciting. You guys have the most open and entertaining games. I also love Martin Jol's mentality the man, like Fergie, never plays for a draw. He always attacks and wants the team to win. Hopefully with a fully fit team, with few good signings you will be start the next season with all guns blazing ;)
I used to think that being lazy was bad for me .......  So I gave up thinking

I agree with Rob, we need some class players to come to us in the summer and maybe we can attempt to brake the chain. Berbatov, King and Dawson will need to stay fit though. The only thing I worry about is when we lead a game and concede goals so easily to throw the lead away.

I believe we can if we sign class players in the summer. We need a class left-back, left wing and attacking midfielder. We also need to stop giving away leads in important matches.

100% Agree !!! WE need to get our act together and stop acting like sissies when we concede a goal or lead by just 1:0 in key games.

What happens is that most of our players get their boots filled with stones after getting a lead against a quality performer. They get scared to win and start blindly defending hoping that a single goal and loads of defensive crap will do the trick for the win !! That's ********!

How can you even imagine to keep 1-goal lead over Chelski, Arse(a)nal for example ? Hoping that worldclass players like Drogba, Fabregas and the rest won't convert a single chance in the second half with our defensive play is madness !! We have to push them back with COUNTERS. Make them scared to come to our goal, coz they fear to concede a second one that would put the nail in their coffin ... What happens now ? Terry and Ebuoe feeling great in our box instead of being in their own, fearing a lightning counter strike from Berbatov, Lennon and Keano ...

I just hope Berbatov stays for at least one more season at The Lane. I mean, I have followed his carreer closely since he showed up on that CSKA Sofia game some 9 years ago ... and I can tell you one thing: The reasons for Berbatov to leave both CSKA Sofia and Leverkusen were two:

1. Lack of decent service to him.
Berbatov was playing "solo" in offence, more like an attacking midfielder or playmaker - getting the ball deep at the centre half, running to defenders, passing, etc. Still he always managed to score two dozens of goals and more ... But , still, everybody on the team waiting on him to create a chance (not to score !!) PRESSURES him so badly, that he sometimes loses the will to fight and play ...

2. The clubs won nothing. Nothing, nada. Both CSKA and Leverkusen spoke of winning domestic cups, European challenges, etc, but nothing fo that was really achieved ... Neither of the clubs bought those vital quality players to succeed ....

1. Young players do not become great stars by default m8. And if they do, that takes A ****LOAD of time (3+ years) for most of them ... Look at Ronaldo and see when he started performing at his top level. Tell a 26-year-old player that he will have to wait 3 years for our young players to start performing and he will laugh in your face ...

2nd. Our squad is not that young ... we have 6-7 players that are 25+ !! And they still got trashed by Ars*nal's YOUNGER squad in that second half ...

yes when our players realise they are good and all show passion and get some consistancy and when we sign a few left sided players then we will be top four or at least close

Anyone can see that the potential is deff there and with a couple of good signings it should happen. The team just need to believe that they are good enough to do it and not be fearful and in awe of some of the big name players that are up there as they can be just as good.

Of all the teams outside the top four I honestly think that we have the best chance of a breakthrough. Bolton are an ageing side and Everton blow hot and cold. Reading are probably a one season wonder like Wigan last year. The only team apart from us I can see making a challenge at the moment is Villa who like us are a young team with potential and the funding now to make a push. With a bit of sound investment and keeping hold of our better players there is no reason why we shouldn't be knocking on the door of a Champions League place next season. Although with the funding that the top four have they will probably be raising the bar even higher.

Well look at the team we had last season & we almost almost managed 4th place. We have a far better squad this season yet we are making hard work of it. I appreciate you have to let a new side settle down & it may take a full season to do that, but undeniably our away form has badly let us down, together with the inability to keep hold of leads.

We have to buy more quality players if we're to finish in the top 4. I don't want to have to refer to Chelsea, but in a lot of their matches this season, they haven't looked that great but they've still scraped out a result. That's what it's all about.
