Andros Townsend.
« on: October 16, 2013, 04:48:47 PM »
It seems that after his excellent display at Wembley he has been given a pay rise and an extended contract. He has gone from £6,000 to £16,000.
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

Apparently a deal has been done whereby Real Madrid get Townsend as soon as he becomes consistent and a name recognised world wide, he is expected to move there for a large cash sum plus a player that had great potential called Bale lol

THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

I suppose the answer to that is so long as Spurs benefit from it. The sale of Bale benefited Spurs. I am not sure the sale of Modric benefited Spurs though.

Cant help but think that even though we have offered Townsend a new contract which he has accepted and signed if he continues with the performances to date throughout the season we will need to offer him a new bumper deal at the end of the season and tie it up quick otherwise others will come in for him and we risk his head being turned.

16k per week in football wages terms is pence, just a thought as he is one we need to keep hold of then sell when he is worth 90 mill lol

He'll be playing for Real Madrid before we can say Bale.  :grin: (I really hope this only remains a joke)

Lol Riff, so do I.

The partnership we signed last year with Real does seem very one sided, was it a deal whereby they get first dibs on our top players it does make ya wonder.

It was one sided. But I can't see Townsend going to RM.

I would like to see his contract improved at the end of the season to help fight off interest that is going to come from various teams no doubt!

With his decent performances and 16k per week contract at the end of this season we will see just how much THFC runs through his veins!

I doubt that will happen for awhile as he has just resigned for Spurs.

A contract doesn't mean a lot these days, all it really ensures is a player will play for us, be paid a wage and the longer his term the bigger the buy out fee, lets face it 16k per week it wouldn't take much to turn his head!

He could get offered double that by another club and its still sweet FA in terms of footi wages.

I hope we tweak his deal if his performances continue to safe guard our investment!

If that happens I think it will happen after the World Cup. If he shines he will be a gold mine and other clubs will come knocking.

I think Andros has potential but at the moment he is a one trick pony. I would play Aaron Lennon ahead of him due to his experience and use Townsend in the Europa League. We need to play our best players in the league and Townsend isn't better than Lennon IMO.
