Did we really expect to go the season unbeaten, all teams have a game or two which goes against the grain and which the scoreline is a shocker.

TBH I think we suffered a Euro hangover and the amount of games in the last 2 weeks had simply caught up with everyone.

I am pissed at the defeat but I am not pointing fingers, neither am I now of the view that or players and manager are s**t.

The players are embarrassed by the result going by many personal statements they have made,  I expect a bounce back in the next league game, Defoe must not start unless we have 2 up front and players like JVT, Dembele, Dawson, Lloris etc must not be playing every match available but must be preserved for the EPL in my opinion.

All great teams lose matches; but usually managers and players learn from those mistakes. I believe AVB is a good manager and can learn from our defeat by West Ham. Time will tell.

Voice, surely at this moment in time you are not suggesting that we are a great side, are you? I would possibly agree that we have the makings of maybe, becoming one, but there is a long long way to go before we achieve that lofty mantle!!

I think we are a great side on paper. But that is only half the story. There is still a lot more work to do. For one - which I've pointed out before - our midfield need to feed our striker (s). We had a good start but were very cruelly exposed by West Ham. This is where AVB and his team come in. Can they sort of the problems and motivate the team to pick themselves up and show their true worth?

There is a long way to go; but Spurs must learn quickly if we want to be one of the top 4 teams. This season, more than others, there are probably 6 teams fighting for 4 places. AVB must make sure we are one of them. The complaint last season was that we were lacking a good striker; now we have three quality strikers. Our midfield is stronger and we seem to have a good defence

You don't think our strikers are any good then?

Soldado, no doubting his class and what he brings to a game yet to be proven IMO in the EPL.

Defoe outstanding against lesser opponents, fluffs so many chances and past his best IMO, impact sub at best in the EPL,

Ade... well IMO he never really fulfilled his full ability he showed such promise when at Ars*nal but its just in his character not to try.   Ade is proven in the EPL, proven at being a real goal threat but equally proven at being a waste of space so its a real gamble to field him in place of another.

Finally looking at EPL games as for me that is all that really matters this season, where have the majority of our goals have come from, not our strikers.  So at this point do I feel we have 3 quality strikers as you put it, at the moment, no we dont, mediocore mid to lower table type at best on current displays.

I am pinning my hopes on Soldado being that striker we have craved since Berbatoss, time will tell.

I too am counting on it. It would be a huge step back if he didn't put in at least 15 in the EPLthis season

I agree; I also would pin my hopes on Soldado, providing our midfield can feed him. As for Ade, I wouldn't wright him off yet.

My statement does not write him off, I recognise his ability and his character it all depends on what Ade can be f**ked to do on the day which of course gives a selection headache for AVB

Pretty much sums up my feelings on our strikers, though the thread is Michael Dawson !! Same applies to our defence really, apart from Verthonghen who is generally top class, its those around him who are the problem.

Last season - near the end - he started getting his act together. This season, if he wants to see action,  will have to try that little harder. Either that or go.

Back to the topic of Dawson, would any here consider him a Spurs Legend as yet?

In my opinion he is not far off and here are my reasons as to why:

A) last season told not in plans surplus to requirements etc, transfer was lined up but he refused and wanted to stay at THFC prove his worth etc... how many players would have done that?

B) This guy would bleed lily white, I dont think his loyalty can be questioned.

C) Never goes missing in a game always gives 100% from what I have seen, sometimes has bad games and is outclassed but hey nature of the game!

D) Leads by example, never makes stupid media comments head down to get the job done.

No doubt I have missed some points but I feel the icing on the cake to ensure his legend status is to lead us to a CL slot this season and crack on again next season,

Sorry metal, but you are looking through rose tinted glasses. When we were about to offload him as I recall there were no teams in the top 6 who were after him.
Fantastically loyal yes, top quality CB no. Lacks pace, gets turned left right and centre, and with him at the heart of our defence we will continue to ship 3 goals or worse against teams like West Ham.
How come he has never been given a decent run in the England set up, no matter who the manager ? Terry and Ferdinand are out, and still he dosen't even get in the squad.
AVB must have seen a weakness there, and frankly so do I.

Hang on there mate up until the Wet Spam game we had the best defensive record in europe!!!

Now correct me if I am wrong but we dont go from being capable of locking teams out from our goal for a high numbers of games to being s**t overnight and then laying the blame at Dawson's feet, the whole team was dire against wet spam hence the result, we failed to score, put away chances and leaked goals.

He's appeared 4 times for the England full team, hardly a legend quality. He's 29 years old. Yes, he's a reasonably good player but a long way to go before becoming a legend. And his time is running out.
