Why Dawson signing a new contract is such good news
« on: October 05, 2013, 01:31:09 PM »
So Dawson has signed a new deal keeping him at the club until 2016 and approx. to the age of 32/33 years old. This is such great news for the team, the squad and the fans, it shows the real quality we have moving forward and keeps us firmly amongst the top sides in the premiership. Why I hear some of you ask?

There are a number of reasons why I feel that this is such a key point in our development as a top side. Firstly, Dawson is a fantastic player, largely underrated by many and not given the credit or acknowledgement he deserves. Dawson optimizes what a team player is. He is a very good defender who knows his own strengths and weaknesses, and when in a complimentary partnership shows how valuable he is to the side. In my opinion he should have been given more of a chance at International level, but only if he was playing alongside a Rio and not a Terry.

It also gives the side some consistency, a player that works for the team, does not moan and complain and always gives 100%. Even when he is not playing through injury, form or through poor management decisions, Dawson just keeps fighting for his place and shows why he should be in the side, using his football on the field, to do his talking. A true professional!

Lastly and in many ways more importantly the reason why I think this is a key factor in our transition to becoming a better side and team, is the fact that he was about to be sold. By a man who needed to come in and make his mark, setting the team up in a way that would stamp his style and reflect his ethos. Dawson is not, on first glance at least, an AVB type of player. However, through Dawson's approach and a little luck, he was able to fight for his place in the side. Now the key factor here, is that AVB was wise enough and humble enough to recognise this and act positively about it. Dawson is now a key member of the team and alongside Vertonghen and I am sure some different defensive ideas, has formed a defensive partnership that looks stronger than anything I have seen in a Spurs side for many years.

So well done AVB and well done Dawson!

Totally agree . He`s a team player 100% , committed and loyal , never whines and moans just gets on with it . If only every other footballer was like him eh ? What shouldn`t be forgotten as well is that he`s come back froma serious knee injury to reclaim his place in the side as captain.

Mr dawson i love you :up:

Dawson is true THFC, he has been slagged off alot for being slow etc but in all honesty his passion for THFC and commitment to t club cant be questioned.

Player wise he is a rock IMO and a great Captain, what I really respect is when it was made clear to him he wasnt wanted or needed he stuck around and dug deep.  Now as its stands he is one of the first names on the team sheet and been rightly rewarded with a new contract!

Onwards and upwards COYS!
THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

      Dawson is IMO a very important member of our Club, he is a perfect role model for the younger players, who can learn from his experience, and he epitomizes every quality required as a Club Captain, very fitting that he should be offered a new contract and very well deserved. Congrats Daws.

Hhhmm.... Anyone want to revise their statements after yesterday,s performance ?  Personally I like the guy, but I am sorry, he is just one of a number of reasons why yesterday's ugly collapse reared its head again. We really are a long way still from top 3 consistency.

         RSS61, Surely you are not putting the blame for yesterdays loss solely on Dawson, I think the blame lies with the whole team, I don't think one of them can feel happy with their performance (except maybe Townsend, he never stopped trying) AVB has to take some responsibility as well, he was outcoached and outsmarted by Sam Allardyce. I think the players are starting to believe that they only have to turn up at the lane in order to win. I have some news for them!!!!

No Paul, I dont blame him alone, however he is not good enough as the mainstay of our defence if we ever hope to break into top 4 regularly.

       I guess only time will tell, but I do think that since he and Verthonghen have been playing in central defence that there has been an improvement in our defence, apart from yesterday!!!

Dawson signing is good news.
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

Extremely unfair to blame just one man, Vertonghen also had a bad game at the back and so did Walker. Defoe messed up again etc. Someimes we need a wake up call and hopefully this is a big one.

Did we really expect to go the season unbeaten, all teams have a game or two which goes against the grain and which the scoreline is a shocker.

TBH I think we suffered a Euro hangover and the amount of games in the last 2 weeks had simply caught up with everyone.

I am pissed at the defeat but I am not pointing fingers, neither am I now of the view that or players and manager are s**t.

The players are embarrassed by the result going by many personal statements they have made,  I expect a bounce back in the next league game, Defoe must not start unless we have 2 up front and players like JVT, Dembele, Dawson, Lloris etc must not be playing every match available but must be preserved for the EPL in my opinion.

All great teams lose matches; but usually managers and players learn from those mistakes. I believe AVB is a good manager and can learn from our defeat by West Ham. Time will tell.
