In view of the rumors linking AVB to PSG in the summer, I wonder if the spending was done to show him that this club is where he should stay.

As Metal says, one game at the time, we are all too familiar with the way our beloved players can suddenly lose momentum for no apparent reason!

I think Spurs know we've got the best manager we've had for some time so Spurs had to spend to keep him. If we want the top managers we need top football.

We have actually spent very little after the sale of Bale. Lets hope that we spend some more in January. We still need an out and out striker, a poacher in the Gary Lineker / Clive Allen mold, someone who dosn't miss all the chances that Defoe does.

I was reading an article by Dawson that said Joe Lewis - Spurs owner - wants to turn Spurs into a super club. Funny enough as I read it I thought of the comments you made - above. However, whether the spending spree is down to JUST the Bale sale or not there are only so many players Spurs or any team can buy. The tester is if we do well this season will Spurs build on it with real money or not? And also if we want to keep our manager - as other clubs want him - we have to commit to building that 'super club' or lose him.

Maybe Spurs were waiting for the right manager; which makes sense. I wouldn't commit that sort of money to the previous donkey's we had in charge.

And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

For someone who is so positive about where Spurs are right now, you really do have a poor opinion of everyone pre-AVB. I think you should be more respectful of some of the people we have had at the club. They could only work with what they had and the direction the board wanted to go in. Yes we have had some poor managers, but I think they were poor choices to begin with, but we have also had some managers who have done well and given us some decent football to watch and silverware occasionally to celebrate.
Maybe next year...

Yes I agree with that. Before Jol it was a all a little random and no direction. Jol got us moving.
Maybe next year...

I couldn't agree more, I was brought up to always show respect to others, until they either disrespected me or my family, and to give credit where credit is due.

Everyone pre AVB has contributed to getting us to where we are right now, as I said before the main one was Jol, but even those before and the manager immediately after contributed by way of being such a poor choice changes had to be made!

I feel that the powers that be have learnt a fair bit over the years and whilst they are very shrewd and good businessmen they know that for success in Football there are many contributing factors required that all have to come together.

In the last season until now we are again going forward IMO and may this continue!

If anyone was at the West Ham game today you will now know there is still a mountain to climb, the result today was a disaster but more than that the team played like they did not have a clue to go down to a West Ham side who were little more than average shows that it's still work in progress. Defoe was his usual self had our one great chance at 0-0 and missed it (nothing new there) we need Sandro back in the side as well as Lennon and Kaboul and to be fair the other new players will need time, so for me this season will be very much up and down the potential is there but it's going to take time to pull through.

After a result like this the dream is a miles away. The nightmare is nearer!

I was at the game and I am hoping it was just a blip. We were going to lose somewhere along the line. The question is how we pick ourselves up and fight back; that is the markings of a good team.

Long way to go, for me I am just looking at top 4 this season no expectations of the title or even challenging this season.

On another note the Gooners are going strong, just hoping this season is a reverse of their usual trend so instead of gather pace after xmas this season I hope they run out of steam!

Though TBH long as we are in the top 4 and have CL fotti I dont care who wins the league title!

I agree with you about 4th, however, a trophy wouldn't be out of the question.

Fair comment a few believe we may get a trophy, me personally I am just focusing on the EPL 4th or higher is a must and if we need to sacrifice the cups in order to safe guard that this season then so be it!

Next season however I would expect us to challenge in the EPL and a preferred cup!
