Season expectations
« on: August 16, 2013, 09:31:33 AM »
Prediction and expectations for the new season please.
Are we all excited or has the Bale saga put a damper on things?
What are realistic expectations for the team for this year?
With the money spent this summer, is AVB now under pressure to deliver?
What are everyone’s opinions of the current squad? Do we have the depth and balance to Challenge the top 4?

Because of what we bought (irrespective of whether Bale stays or not) I think we can do 3rd or higher. It also wouldn't surprise me if we were one of the top challengers for the title. I also fancy us winning one of the major trophies: FA Cup, League Cup or even the Europa cup).
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

If we do nothing this year with the squad we have then we never will . If we keep bale i honestly think we can go close for the title . I`m actually sick of football and it`s spoilt , selfish players , narccistic chairmen and the total lack of respect and loyalty to clubs and fans .Sky have totally ruined football by drenching it in money . It`s not the game i used to watch on a saturday with my dad .
If your not spurs you`re dead to me

Same here. Sadly, I must admit I've fallen out of love for football.

As a Spurs fan for over 40 years I have learned to live in hope rather than expectation, My main hope is that we are good to watch. The first 20 minutes against Espanyol gave me the feeling we will be. I think we will do ok in the league, top 4 is certainly achievable, and cups are always the luck of the draw. If we can keep our best players fit we have a team capable of beating anybody. As always it will be an interesting ride. Just hang on and enjoy it.

I can understand what you are saying but football has changed and it isn't going to change back any time soon. We have to learn to adapt to the changing times. For me; I am positive with football and Spurs.

   I know its not and thats the sad thing . Its not a game for the ordinary fans anymore . Everything is so expensive and the players are so totally out of touch .I used to go and watch all of the home games and watch the team train in the 80`s . THey wont even let you into the training ground now and heaven forbid if you actually tried to talk to the players .

I agree; we are living in a more celebrity culture. There were days when the top Spurs Players (or any football players) would travel to a match on the same transport as the fans. Bill Nicholson used to walk to work. Now they've gone from ordinary footballers to Gods; and that is what they believe. That is Mercenary Gods.

I was having dinner in a restraunt (excuse my spelling) near to where i live recently with my wife when ray clemence and his wife came in . I spoke to his wife at the dessert counter and she was really lovely , nice to talk to and very chatty . As they left my wife told me to go and speak to him as she said i would regret it if i didn`t . I went up and shook his hand and told him what a great keeper he was and he too was really nice . Afterwards i got a bit emotional and my wife couldn`t work out why . I told her it was because seeing him reminded me of when i absolutely loved football and when footballers were still accessible . Days long gone .

3rd place in the EPL or higher.

Quarter finals FA Cup, hoping to get dumped out the league cup asap and Europa a decent run but using our fringe players only!
THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

On the evidence of yesterdays game at Palace, coupled with Chelsea / Man Utd, and probably City tonight, then I think we still have a way to go be recognised as nailed on top 4. Man Utd and Chelsea won at a canter, whereas as always, we were hanging on for dear life in the end. We really should have scored at least 3.

In my opinion to be certain of 4th spot or better, we need another RB / CB, LB , creative midfielder & striker.

Assuming that Bale is going this week or next, then I think we will get some more quality in. Only then will we have the ability to win all those games that Bale did for us last year.

I wasn't expecting free flowing football yesterday, but yes we struggled at times and although Syg and Defoe could have easily made it 3-0, It was  just about acceptable. 3 new players + Rose,  and will have to get used to life without GB.

Chelsea winning 2 -0 v Hull isn't that brilliant. I would have put money on 4 goals.  Van Persie was and will be the difference at Man U and I dare say City will win this evening.  On the positive side, Ars*nal had a great start (couldn't wish for better!)

All in all, we still need a couple of players up front and the return of Kaboul & Sandro should just about seal the squad  for this season. IMO

I hope we do not linger too long in the Europa if we use key players and I am not bothered about the Capital Cup.

With that in mind, 3rd and the FA cup would do me very nicely indeed.  Thank you. (or am I  greedy?)

The newer players still need to settle down and they need to get know each other. As time goes on they will getter better and better.
