Good morning everyone, season upon us and this has been a very eventful preseason.
So thought I try and kick off a couple of discussions to get everyone going for the new season.
1) Thoughts on the Club actually spending Big this summer
2) Thoughts on the English players leaving and more foreign imports
3) Which of the new transfer are you excited to see?
4) £50million already spent, has Levy already spent the "Bale money"?
5) Have we strengthened in the right areas?
1) Not in the least bit surprised. It is the right time to.
2) We still have a fair number of home-grown (enough to not worry about contravening the regulations). None of the players who left suit AVB's system - the players coming through the youth set-up are being tutored to play in a 4-3-3 so hopefully that percentage will go up again. Not all Spurs fans are England supporters.
3) The one player I really, really wanted us to go for, to the point where when Willian was supposed to be signingmy thought was that he is a very good player but I would rather have, is Ericksen. Sad to see Willian has seemingly turned into a prize pratt - especially sad for AVB who considered the guy to be a personal friend, but not in the least bit bitter. For me, it worked out perfectly - Chelsea overpaid for a player they didn't really need one, in the position where they are strongest, rather than buying where needed (much like Arse*al and Ozil), whereas we got the player for a position we really needed* who is younger and cheaper than Willian but, IMHO, with greater potential and a greater goal-threat. * I consider Holtby to be proper competition for him, don't buy into the theory that he was 'crap' last year, just didn't get time, especially not in that position, so we wouldn't have been without a player in that position if Ericksen hadn't signed. But what it does give us is two very good options for each one of the three midfield positions.
4) *2 and I think that is a yes
I wouldn't exclude some more shopping in January, though - especially with exciting youngsters.
5) Yes
