Summer recruits
« on: August 16, 2013, 09:30:46 AM »
Good morning everyone, season upon us and this has been a very eventful preseason.
So thought I try and kick off a couple of discussions to get everyone going for the new season.
1) Thoughts on the Club actually spending Big this summer
2) Thoughts on the English players leaving and more foreign imports
3) Which of the new transfer are you excited to see?
4) £50million already spent, has Levy already spent the "Bale money"?
5) Have we strengthened in the right areas?

1.   Levy had to spend big to keep one of the top managers at this club. He also needed to spend to get into the top 4; where all the money is. I’ve always said; if we have the right manager we will go places and the money will be there.
2.   We want the best; if that means all foreign players or all English players so be it. Buying foreign players or not we still got some good English youngsters coming through. Plus the English players we’ve already got. As for the players leaving; I am happy with the players that are leaving and what they’ve been replaced with.
3.   I am looking forward to see Paulinho and Solado fitting into the team and Samdro and Kaboul back to fitness. And the spending spree isn’t over yet; according to AVB.
4.   No. If Bale goes it will take us to another level; spending wise. But we don’t need to let Bale go. I suppose it is what Levy can get out of Real Madrid and what Bale wants. And what is in the interest of Spurs FC.
5.   We need another striker. Midfield we are quite strong in that department. As for defence; providing we have all the players fit we should be ok.
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

More than pleased with the money spent an I believe they will be more to join before the end of August.

I would have preffered to see English players join, but  it would be difficult to nale anyone?  if you want to battle with the big boys, foreign imports are a must. More choice

Soldado and Paulinio look exciting and will make the biggest impact.

I am not sure that they have spent all of Bale's money. I think both Lewis and Levi realise that we wouldn't get anywhere without spending.

Let's be greedy and say that we still need someone else who can score goals and a creative midfielder

I'll go along with your post. And yes we need another striker.

1. He spent what he needed to spend . If you want to be at the top you have to spend big money .
2.The players that have left needed clearing out and so long as the players replacing them are superior i dont care where they`re from .
3.Soldado excites me . Who was the last 20 plus striker we had ?
4.Levy has come in for some (occasionally) justified criticism but he`s a savvy businessman . He knows that spending £60mill plus AND keeping bale would put us in a very good position . Having said that , i wouldn`t be suprised if at 11:59 on september 2nd jim white from sky sports is having a wank over the amount of money we`ve accepted for him .
If your not spurs you`re dead to me

I'd be happy with Chiriches who seems to be in the bag and Lamela. Hulk would be good for a couple of years but likely to be trouble!

That looks like it is on the cards.

Hulk is so overrated. The guy cannot play well in Russian Premier League, don't expect him to start producing in English Premier League.

I'm not sure what it is, and I don't know how to explain it. Anyway, I appreciate the new players who have joined and probably they are better players than the ones who have left. But the thing is that this foreign influx and the Bale saga have somewhat deteriorated my relationship with Spurs. I understand it's not the club's fault that local players are so expensive, but I've always been proud to say the Spurs have more British players than other top teams. Of course, one could argue we weren't a top team and will be now. I understand the motives, but, these are my personal feelings about a thing I can't actually do anything about.

Paulinho and Soldado look classy signings, but I fail to see the point in letting promising Caulker go and bringing in a Romanian player.

Unfortunately it seems that our British core of players are mostly the ones who have not performed consistently enough when it mattered. Now some of them are gone, with more to follow I'm sure. Sad, but what other options are there if we want to move to the next level ?

        I do tend to agree with you Riff, but everyone who contributes to this forum including you and me are crying out for Spurs to either Win something or be considered as a TOP 3 side, and unfortunately the English/British players have not been able to deliver, either because they are (a) not good enough.(b) if they have been they have been sold or(c) we haven't been able to buy them because they are overpriced, and as a consequence we have now had to sign foreign players in order to become a, hopefully, successful club both domestically and in Europe.
