I dont think too much can be read into AVB not wanting to discuss it. He had already made a statement the day before and is probably, much like Moyes with Rooney, sick of talking about it. The sports press read something into every twitch and gesture at this time of year as they have nothing else to write about. Most of it is plain nonsense. For example why on earth would we fly Bale all the way to Hong Kong if a deal to sell him was already in place. They see his injury as a smokescreen but is most likely genuine it just makes a better story to come up with conspiracy theories. If he plays even 10 minutes on Saturday we will know for sure that he is still our player for the time being at least. If not well who knows time will tell.

And thats exactly my point if he has been sold he wont be playing. Even if a deal is pending they wouldn't risk him, the others that played were in the shop window. As yet they have attracted no firm interest. And quite what was gained by them running about in that mud bath is beyond me. Apart from some kudos for the F.A nothing good came out of it what so ever

I would like to raise a point to your synopsis of the Bale situation. He was withdrawn from the Sunderland game. AVB says it was because of an injury. But was it? His injury was badly time.... or not as the case may be.

AVB isn't stupid. By refusing to talk about it he knows the press will read whatever they want into it.

As for Bale playing in a friendly. All those that are reputed to be leaving are playing for Spur and will continue to play for Spurs - friendly or not - until they are sold; if sold.

I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

Today there are reports from several sources about extending Bale's contract. So, it will be a while before this is cleared up. one way or the other  :nods:

And..  hey! Vertonghen is out for up to 3 weeks. I watched the game on my laptop and I was convinced that we were playing in a paddy field, I am sure Jan was planting rice when he fell! :lol:

All part of the hype created by the media which is what footballs all about now.
If you believed the press Spurs were in for Benteke Villa said they had recieved no enquiry whatsoever from Spurs and suprise suprise he signed for Villa after a long chat with Lambert!
If Spurs sell Bale there is no one who would come to Spurs to replace him because there are no players on the market at the moment the manager knows that and the chairman knows that.

Another part of the Bale saga is that he has demanded a move to Real Madrid, according to Spanish papers (and the British Metro). He is now supposedly been confronting Levy about promises made. If the Spanish papers are lying then they can be done for lying for putting words in Bale’s mouth.

Concerning AVB; he is now saying “hopefully” Bale will sign a new contract. Before it was “he isn’t going anywhere” to “hopefully”.  And still silence from Bale and Levy.

You are right; it could be paper hype. But that shouldn't stop Levy and Bale putting this hype out to sleep. But you make good points.

Vertonghen will only miss a couple of games; if any.

To answer the initial question of this thread, I think we have already replaced Bale with Chadli.  :nods:

No one has yet denied the rumours from RM and Bale was apparently fit to play today. Frankly I would be gutted if he went, but that would be my heart speaking. My head would say, at £80M, we could buy 3 great players and not only  fill the gaps, but make a statement of intend to challenge the so called "big3" and leave the Arse in our wake! :dance:  All rumours have some truth in them and a few good names are linked with us atm. Will we ever get a better opportunity to strengthen the squad? :up:

Who is to say that Bale would have another great season and still retain this high value? In fact some papers are quoting £100M. Ridiculous!  In any event, no player is worth that kind of money and assuming that someone like RM is prepared to pay it, then who would blame Levy for grabbing it with both hands. Not me! :nope:

On the point of Bale; he as had one brilliant season, who is to say he will have another great one or even with Real Madrid? Usually players are valued over many seasons.

This whole Bale saga is getting boring now. Either sell him, give him a new contract but less us know.

Your point with regard to if Bale goes for 80m the club could buy 3 great players, given that clubs will not just bend and sell to another club coming in with a bid. Who do think Spurs could target because it would also hinge if that great player  / players  wanted to come to Spurs and why would they?
Truth is if Spurs sell Bale it will leave a huge gap and leave the club without a quality striker, but I still believe he will not go.

       Unfortunately I think he has already gone, I hope I'm wrong, but it is certainly starting to look that way.

The silence from Spurs and Bale himself is ominous. Unfortunately it seems that Real Madrid got their wish with all the unsettling bulls**t.

Apparently Levy has been on holiday in Florida for the past couple of weeks. Which seems a bit odd being as this is the time of year when he really earns his corn. I guess he has minions who do the donkey work and he just signs the cheque.

Sadly I have to agree with you. The only good thing I can see coming out of this is the money to buy brilliantly. Either way we can't lose.

Psychologically they've unsettled him. Even if he is forced to stay you don't know what damage that could cause.

That is why he signed up the director of football.
