Quote from RSS61'
All I am trying to say is that club chairmen place a huge amount of trust in the managers they appoint to spend their money wisely. Judging by the frequent sackings of managers, a lot of the time they waste quite a lot of it.
It will be interesting to see how much money AVB is given, and how astutely he spends it.

RSS what you say is true but for one problem, our Chairman is the one who spends the money, he negotiates the transfers, as we saw by the rediculous offer he made for Mourinho,(a player that AVB desperately wanted to sign) on the final day of the Summer window.  I don't think AVB has any say in the transfers, other than saying who he would 'like to get', as opposed to "Who he wants". I realise that we are not in the position to spend outlandish amounts on players, but don't insult clubs by making crap offers for players, imagine Real Madrid offering us 10 million pounds for Bale, we would all be saying f**k off, would we not, my point being, that is exactly what Levy does.

 :nods: :nods:

Actually AVB does has have a say who is brought to the club. Look at some of the donkey's that Redknapp wanted and got.

Without doubt there is a danger in spending large sums of money on players who do not deliver. Looking back, I can think of Rebrov Bent Bentley Hutton Palacios and the list is probably endless.
Redknap spent 20 million in January on 2 players, one of whom admits that he was never fit enough to play in the prem, and the other who is currently at Her Majesty's pleasure.
Clubs like Man U Man City and Chelsea have the luxury of being able to write off their mistakes and ship in ever more overpriced players. We do not however.
As a journalist in the Telegraph said this morning, the Premier League is a vehicle to move around vast sums of money, with a football in the middle.
I think we will get 1 more season out of Bale if we are lucky, so AVB should be forming his new squad already for life without Bale.
Even Man Utd cannot hang onto all their best players when money calls.

I agree. Good post.

What I really do not understand, is why you are so scathing about Harry Redknapp and the things that he achieved, or the players that he brought in. Yet are so unwilling to say anything that is remotely critical of AVB or Levy. You only ever say things like we cannot know what is going on...Levy has the club's best interest at heart...I will withhold judgement till the end of the season...Player X may still turn into the player we need...etc. etc. I cannot wait until tomorrow evening where I fully expect to look on here and finally see what you actually think about our season. Maybe you may even post something about what you would like to happen next, actually make a statement about what you really think, rather than telling us all that everything is perfect as it is.
Maybe next year...

Pressure is only on us to beat Sunderland at home which I do not believe that  even if the Arse score first,  we would allow ourselves not to try to win regardless.

Everyone at the Lane will be aware of the Arse score throughout the match and vice versa. So the real pressure is on the them to get 3 points against the "Wee North East Club". We just have to wait for the outcome.

Well we finished with a win, our highest ever EPL points tally and it got us fifth place.

:'( as we didnt make it into the CL but i feel we have a bright future, if Levy sticks to his word and we keep our keys players and invest where required, I think next season we will be pushing and scrapping it out for third or higher.

This season is full of what if's much like the previous season but as our points indicate we have progressed and performed better regarding results.

I love your optimism. The fact is that Levy raised season ticket prices by 3%, whilst giving himself a £400K pay rise for not actually making a profit this year. Levy is presently the 2nd highest paid chairman in the prem, and has only won a single league cup trophy in his reign.  In the last 4 seasons he has spent nothing on the balance sheets.

Yes, we have one point more than last year, but at the cost of finishing one position lower, and watching mind blowingly boring football.

You obviously don't pay out for the 2nd dearest season ticket in the world (after Ars*nal), but I do !!
AVB OUT, AND TAKE LEVY WITH YOU

You really should at least take the time to get your facts straight before bitching and moaning like a girl. Actually we have 3 more points than last season and 2 more than our highest previous total since 1967. Although the football hasn't been as free flowing as previously, to say it is mind blowingly boring is quite plainly inaccurate.

The fact that you pay out for a season ticket means absolutely nothing, so I don't know why you feel the need to bring it up.

However, you are correct about the season ticket prices, which I think are over priced considering the return. But it is worth noting that the london clubs in general charge more than the rest of the country, probably due to capital prices etc. All 6 london clubs are in the top 8 for the amount they charge.
Maybe next year...

Disapointing that Newcastle couldn't at lease score one goal. Thay have had a bad season! Going back, I think we lost our 4th spot against Liverpool when Walker and Defoe gave the ball away that cost us 2 goals.

Finishing 5th is a bit a downer, but not disatrous. I wonder what AVB/Levey will do now with eventual new player transfers?

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to answer your questions.
1.   I have been critical on Mr Levy on this forum; concerning the picking of some of manager’s we’ve had in the past.
2.   I only joined in October so you wouldn’t have known about my previous critical concerns against Mr Levy. I give credit when it is due and criticise when necessary.
3.   As for AVB; I think he has done a good job since joining Spurs. This season we finished with the highest points tally since any Spurs manager since 1967. There has been a lot of criticism of some of our players; if I accept that then that is another reason why we should give AVB credit. We’ve ended up 5th and with the highest points tally since 1967 and we achieved that with players that members on here are critical of. And all that in his first season. There is nothing – concerning AVB – to be critical of, but congratulatory.
4.   As for the best interests of the “club at heart”: I’ve said all along that for Spurs to compete with the top clubs we need more revenue and one of the way’s to achieve that is by building a bigger stadium; which is in progress. So considering I think Mr Levy is pointing us in the right direction. And of course he said he is going to invest in Spurs with more players. AVB has confirmed this. Of course we shall have to wait and see.
5.   I am disappointed in us finishing 5th but under the circumstances I think we’ve done well. I also think – until we get more income – that we are punching above our weight. Maybe we are achieving that because of Mr Levy’s handling of our purse strings. After all we are not in debt and planning for the future.

I hope that I have answered your question, but if not, then please point out where I’ve avoided you and I will try to correct that error.

Regards, voice.

Even though this isn't directed at me I would like to point out that I would love to but I am on the waiting list. In the mean time I pay the highest ticket prices (individually) and go to all the games.

What Grits my s**t about recent comments (Baldy this is aimed at you) is you talk as if not getting to games makes us that dont less of s supporter and less informed than you!!!!!

I know people who attend games just because they can and they dodnt even support the club they are watching, as its all corporate bollox.

My point is we have as much and maybe even more passion for THFC than you, being a season ticket holder doesnt make you anymore of a supporter than us!!

On the basis of your moans if you hate watching the football we play so much cash in your ticket and watch it on the box.
THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

If you don't agree with me then why don't you discuss it with me? Instead of using such language. I am quite happy to be challenged if you think I am wrong. But using such linguistic terminology doesn't do you any favours.
