    RSS,
The problems started right from the start of the season,
August  Lost to Newcastle (A), WBA Drew (H) Sept Drew Norwich(H) Oct Lost Chelsea(H)
Nov Lost Wigan(H) and so it goes on, Drawing with QPR (A) and Losing to Fulham (H) just compounded the situation, just winning two of those games and we would now be gauranteed CL next season, but as they say "If my Aunt had BALLS she would be my Uncle".

Trying times for AVB at the beginning of the season. New club, new players, departure of  Modric and VDV and a couple of others. We seemed to have got over that until our injuries a few weeks ago.

That Fulham game was dreadful! :o

By the way, I think this thread should be renamed as "OUT OF" our hands.

Very valid point Mr Finch, it could also be said if we had beaten the mighty Wigan we would now be in the driving seat also!

I think we have done very well this season considering all the changes, during the closed season then our injury nightmares we have had (seriously wtf is it with our medical team).  I am resigned to finishing 5th but believe AVB is the manager to take us forward next season and beyond.

For me keeping Bale is pinnacle and its down to AVB and our chairman to convince him that his future lies with us.

Then please invest invest invest where we need it!

In my humble opinion we have a chairman without ambition and a manager who is like a rabbit caught in the headlights of an on coming car. I think this season has been far from good. The football has been painful to watch, and there have been to many mistakes, ie Wigan, Fulham and Everton away etc. Every top club has a stand out strange result, but we have had to many. If Bale wasn't with us, we wouldn't have even finished mid table, and next year we are going to have to learn to play without him. I wish I could share your optimism, but to be honest, I don't !!

As you said "in your humble opinion." A director has to balance a few things, including keeping  the club in good shape (financially). We are not inside the boardrooms so we base our "opinions" on likes or dislikes. Not hard facts. You dislike Mr Levy so he will never do anything right in your eyes. I would rather deal with facts. Personally I think he is trying to remedy our inability to compete on the same level as City, Chelsea and Utd by building a bigger club. I know you disagree but only time will tell. At the moment we haven't got the finances to spend recklessly. Leeds tried that stunt and ended up going broke and sliding down the division.

Levy is the 2nd highest paid chairman in the country. His only interest id to make his big fat wallet even fatter. The last time I looked we were the 12th richest club in the world. Running a club is not about making money, it's about reducing losses and winning trophies. I have no wish for the club to be run as Leeds was, but there is a balance. This year we have won nothing yet again, and will no doubt finish out of the top four. This can't go on !!

What do you mean in the country? He doesn't have the resources as City, United, Chelsea or even Ars*nal.

All businesses are  about making money. But to make money the club as to be successful. Without it they can't make money.

How do you know that that balance you mention isn't being delivered?

Also; considering that Utd, City, Chelsea and even Ars*nal are the top richest clubs in this country then we are not doing too badly being behind them; in the league. To top them we need more resources and one way of getting that is by building a bigger club.

Saying all that I would be happy if Spurs were taken over by somebody richer and has the same resources as Utd, Chelsea and City. Until that happens I think we should be glad we've got Levy. There is an old saying; be careful what you wish for it might happen. In other words somebody with less resources takes over and the club goes downwards.

Without doubt there is a danger in spending large sums of money on players who do not deliver. Looking back, I can think of Rebrov Bent Bentley Hutton Palacios and the list is probably endless.
Redknap spent 20 million in January on 2 players, one of whom admits that he was never fit enough to play in the prem, and the other who is currently at Her Majesty's pleasure.
Clubs like Man U Man City and Chelsea have the luxury of being able to write off their mistakes and ship in ever more overpriced players. We do not however.
As a journalist in the Telegraph said this morning, the Premier League is a vehicle to move around vast sums of money, with a football in the middle.
All I am trying to say is that club chairmen place a huge amount of trust in the managers they appoint to spend their money wisely. Judging by the frequent sackings of managers, a lot of the time they waste quite a lot of it.
It will be interesting to see how much money AVB is given, and how astutely he spends it. I think we will get 1 more season out of Bale if we are lucky, so AVB should be forming his new squad already for life without Bale.
Even Man Utd cannot hang onto all their best players when money calls.

You have finally woken up from hibernation 2 days before the last game of the season, yet again  to slag our club chairman and manager which is shame. In addition you make the obvious statement that without Bale we would not be where we are. This is probably true,  but it's a bit  like saying that Ars*nal without RVP would have ended up mid-table last year, or Man U without Fergie would not have won 30 odd trophies etc...!

Well, I think we  should all be grateful that we have a great player like Bale and his contribution is reflected in our success this season. There has to be someone that the rest of of the players can aspire to and for us it was Bale. We will probably not get 4th place but AVB still has my full support up and with the right back up he will take us further. Just look at other far more experienced managers in the Prem who have failed this year!

If it hadn't been for Paul McCartney, the Beatles would never have written all these fantastic songs! :2funny:

RSS what you say is true but for one problem, our Chairman is the one who spends the money, he negotiates the transfers, as we saw by the rediculous offer he made for Mourinho,(a player that AVB desperately wanted to sign) on the final day of the Summer window.  I don't think AVB has any say in the transfers, other than saying who he would 'like to get', as opposed to "Who he wants". I realise that we are not in the position to spend outlandish amounts on players, but don't insult clubs by making crap offers for players, imagine Real Madrid offering us 10 million pounds for Bale, we would all be saying f**k off, would we not, my point being, that is exactly what Levy does.

Apparently Monaco are set to start the bidding for Moutinho at 40 mill euros. They too are owned by a Russian billionaire who probably spends more than that on presents for his friends.
Therein lies the problem
